LGBT History Month<\/p>\n

LGBT History Month takes place in February each year. At its heart, it\u2019s an opportunity to celebrate LGBT life and culture and to recognise the achievements of LGBT people and communities. This year\u2019s theme is everyday heroes.<\/p>\n

You may remember that as a school we started to celebrate this event last year.\u00a0 We shared, displayed and discussed famous LGBT people from different curricular areas.<\/p>\n

To celebrate this year we will be holding various events throughout the school on the week beginning 19th February. These events will predominately take place out with class time however we were hoping that faculties could show their support by leading a small LGBT activity in their department\/class or by using the posters shown in the link above.<\/p>\n

This week of celebrations will conclude by celebrating Purple Friday on the 23rd February – a day to stand against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and show our support for LGBTI equality. The day was first celebrated in Canada in 2010 and purple signifies the purple stripe on the LGBT rainbow flag which stands for spirit. This day will be full of fundraising events and will include events such as crazy hair day.<\/p>\n

We hope that everyone will get involved in one way or another. If you have any ideas, want to get involved in running an event or you would like any more info please speak with Miss Milliken.<\/p>\n
