{"id":9436,"date":"2022-04-21T09:24:51","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T09:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/Braidhurst\/?p=9436"},"modified":"2022-04-21T09:25:56","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T09:25:56","slug":"newsletter-apr-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/Braidhurst\/2022\/04\/21\/newsletter-apr-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Newsletter Apr 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>School Leadership<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs Rooney continues her secondment as Head Teacher of the Chryston Campus. \u00a0She is still in regular contact with the school and sends her best wishes to all within the Braidhurst HS community. \u00a0At present there is no indication of exactly when this will end. \u00a0In the interim, Mr David Gardiner will continue as Acting Head Teacher with Mr Brian O\u2019Neill Acting Depute Head Teacher.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Summer Term Events<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As restrictions continue to lift, we will be returning to a more normal programme of activities in the summer term. \u00a0These will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S1 &#8211; 2-day Skills Project (Wednesday 11<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; Thursday 12<sup>th<\/sup> May)<\/li>\n<li>P7 &#8211; 2-day transition visit (Wednesday 18<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; Thursday 19<sup>th<\/sup> May)<\/li>\n<li>S3 BGE Graduation Ceremony (Wednesday 1<sup>st<\/sup> June Periods 6 &amp; 7)<\/li>\n<li>Senior Prom (Wednesday 1<sup>st<\/sup> June)<\/li>\n<li>School Concert (Wednesday 15<sup>th<\/sup> June 7.00pm)<\/li>\n<li>Prizegiving (Thursday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> June 7.00pm)<\/li>\n<li>Inter House Competitions (TBC)<\/li>\n<li>School trips (TBC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Covid 19 Restrictions<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In line with the latest Scottish Government and North Lanarkshire Guidance face covering will no longer be mandatory in classrooms or in communal areas however as infection rates are still high in the area, we would still encourage all to sanitise hands and cover their faces when entering the building or moving around the school.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Scottish Qualification Authority &#8211; Exam Arrangements<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Study leave, for senior pupils who are sitting at least <strong>one National 5<\/strong> course will begin on <strong>Monday 25<sup>th<\/sup> April<\/strong>. \u00a0Pupils will return on <strong>Monday 6<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils who are sitting National 4 courses only and have no exams will be able to participate in the \u2018Skills Development Week\u2019, at the Forgewood Community Centre instead. \u00a0This will take place from 10<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 13<sup>th<\/sup> May. \u00a0If you require further details, contact Miss McKenna or Mr O\u2019Toole.<\/p>\n<p>Study facilities will be available in school for any senior pupils who need a quiet space to work. \u00a0If you require these, contact Mr Hendry who will be able to book you in.<\/p>\n<p>Subjects will be offering some additional study and revision classes; individual class teachers will be able to provide more details on when these will take place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Study Leave Gym Memberships: <\/strong>North Lanarkshire Council are providing free access to leisure facilities for pupils who are on study leave. \u00a0You can register your interest by using the following link to complete the online survey.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/W5dnQWbiDP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/W5dnQWbiDP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>School uniform: <\/strong>Full uniform will be required for any visit to the school. \u00a0This includes sitting exams, attending study classes, or using the study space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SQA Estimates: <\/strong>The school is required to submit an estimated grade for every subject that a candidate is being presented for. \u00a0These are evidence based and reflect the work produced in assessments by each pupil. \u00a0If any pupil is unsure of their final estimate, they should ask their class teacher.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that these estimates have still to be quality assured by the SQA and as such should not be taken as a guarantee of an appeal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Illness: <\/strong>Any pupil who is unwell on the day of the exam or who have experienced any specific circumstances that may affect their exam performance should report this to Ms Kerr as early as possible <strong>on the day of the exam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mobile Phones and Smart Watches: <\/strong>In line with SQA policy no mobile phones or smart watches will be allowed in the exam hall. \u00a0A candidate guide produced by the SQA will be made available to all pupils. \u00a0It is the responsibility of each candidate to ensure that they follow the procedures and policies set down in this document. Any queries surrounding this should be directed to Ms Kerr.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>School Holidays<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following days will be school holidays for pupils.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> May<\/li>\n<li>Thursday 5<sup>th<\/sup> May<\/li>\n<li>Friday 27<sup>th<\/sup> May<\/li>\n<li>Thursday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> June<\/li>\n<li>Friday 3<sup>rd<\/sup> June<\/li>\n<li>End of term \u2013 Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> June (1pm)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although the school will be closed to pupils on the above dates it will still be open for any pupil sitting an SQA exam.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Charity Fund Raising<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The pupils have decided that the \u00a3610 raised during the non unform day that was held before Easter should be donated to the Ukraine appeal. \u00a0Thanks to all who donated to this worthy cause.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Parents Group<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The AGM for the Braidhurst Parents\/Carers Group will take place on Tuesday 24<sup>th<\/sup> May at 6.00pm in the school library.
