{"id":195,"date":"2012-08-28T22:21:35","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T22:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.braidhurst.hostoi.com\/?p=195"},"modified":"2012-11-27T00:39:45","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T00:39:45","slug":"we-will-rock-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/Braidhurst\/2012\/08\/28\/we-will-rock-you\/","title":{"rendered":"We Will Rock You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Braidhurst High School\u2019s annual show promised the audience, We Will Rock You and they certainly did not disappoint!<\/p>\n<p>The musical based on the music of legendary rockers Queen, showcased the talents of Braidhurst pupils at their finest.\u00a0 In fact so many talented pupils auditioned for the leading roles that the casting team had to choose 2 sets of principals.\u00a0 The musical is based 300 years in the future on Planet Mall, a time and place when musical instruments are banned, creativity is illegal and the music industry is the victim of globalisation under the evil giant of Globalsoft.\u00a0 The Bohemian rebels who have resisted globalisation, try to rediscover music and the Rhapsody period under the guidance of the living legend, Galileo.<\/p>\n<p>S6 pupil Dean Carr certainly did not seem \u201cUnder Pressure\u201d and gave an excellent performance in the lead role of Galileo.\u00a0 He was offered \u201cSomebody to Love\u201d in the vocal talents of female principals, Hayley Carroll and Natasha Campbell who shared the role of Galileo\u2019s love interest, Scaramouche.\u00a0 However the \u201cCrazy Little Thing called Love\u201d did not run smoothly for the love-struck couple.\u00a0 The audience went \u201cRadio Gaga\u201d as the Bohemian\u2019s nemesis, the \u201cKiller Queen\u201d (Astyn McArthur) tried to consign them to oblivion across the \u201cSeven Seas of Rhye\u201d.\u00a0 Supported by Grant McLaren as Khashoggie, they entered an \u201cOgre Battle\u201d with the Bohemians to prove it would take more than a \u201cKind Of Magic\u201d to escape from the evil clutches of Globalsoft.<\/p>\n<p>However, before it was a case of \u201cAnother One Bites the Dust\u201d, supporting principals Britney (David Kirk &amp; Dayle Archibald), Meat (Laura Cowan &amp; Aynsley McGinn) and Pop (Graeme Dishington &amp; Ewan Lees) came to the rescue in a \u201cFlash\u201d and took Globalsoft on \u201cHeadlong\u201d.\u00a0 As the curtain fell, the chorus line begged the audience, \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Me Now\u201d as they proved that their time at Braidhurst really was \u201cThe Days of our Lives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The show was a rocking end to another fantastic year at Braidhurst and a fitting end to the celebrations of the 50th anniversary year.\u00a0 The success of the event never fails to remind staff, pupils and the wider community of what can be achieved from teamwork and taking pride in the school.\u00a0 \u201cWe are the Champions\u201d has never seemed more appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to all involved for their hard work and dedication over the past few weeks.\u00a0 A special mention must go to Directors Liz Hughes and Roslyn Allison, Musical Director Kimberly Donnelly and the musicians, production, choreography and costume team.<\/p>\n<p>Rector Mr. Derrick Hannan commented: \u201cThis was another fantastic Braidhurst High School Show with sell-outs every night. The principals and entire cast should be proud of their performance. It was another great team effort by everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As always a host of local people and businesses provided their support by acting as patrons.
