Chicks – Day 7

Today the children continued to take care of the chicks by cleaning their brooder box and giving them fresh sawdust, water and food. The children noted how different the chicks looked as they are growing bigger and now beginning to develop their adult feathers all in the space of a week, wow! We took turns to hold the chicks, they were very peaceful. We also had good fun naming the chicks and after much deliberating decided upon Mary, Millie, Alice, Lois, Roxy, Fluffy, Comet, Drifter and Disco. Super names!

Chicks – Day 6

Thankfully all of our chicks were on their best behaviour for Mrs Rooney at the weekend! The children learned how to hold the chicks carefully and there was much excitement this afternoon as they held them for the first time. They were very tame and everyone had fun watching them play in the paddling pool.

Chicks – Day 5

We now have 9 lovely little chicks. The last chick hatched on Thursday evening and she went into the brooder box on Friday to join her brothers and sisters. Today some of the children helped clean the brooder box so that the chicks were comfortable and ready to go home with Mrs Rooney for the weekend.

Chicks – Day 4

We arrived this morning to find 8 little fluffy chicks! The children enjoyed getting the brooder box ready with fresh sawdust, water and food.  We had fun watching the chicks settle in nicely to their new home with their brothers and sisters.

Chicks – Day 3

We arrived this morning to find the first of our babies had hatched during the night! The children were over the moon, as were the adults too! We decided to call her ‘Mary’.  Later today, two more chicks hatched and the children got to see it happen before their eyes. It was a very exciting day in Primary 5.

Chicks – Day 2

We are still eagerly watching and waiting for the first signs of hatching. The children have been given daily jobs such as checking the temperature of the incubator and making sure the water levels are correct. They have also been recording what happens each day in their very own ‘Chick Diary’.

SSPCA

We had a visit from the SSPCA today to highlight the importance of looking after wildlife and animals. The children attended a workshop where they worked co-operatively to learn more about animals and their produce. It was a great learning experience and they left with enhanced knowledge and understanding as well as some goodies.

Chicks – Day 1

The chick eggs arrived today just before lunchtime. The children were very excited and keen to help them settle into their new surroundings. They are enjoying the warmth of the incubator and we hope to see some signs of pipping tomorrow, fingers crossed!

Cross Country

Recently some members of our class participated in a cross country event at Coatbridge. They all did really well and we were proud of them for completing the tough course.

Congratulations to Ryan in our class who made it into the finals day at the end of this month, well done for this great achievement!

Passover Meal

We recently celebrated the end of our Judaism topic by sharing a passover meal. We ate a variety of foods from the seder plate and recited a typical Jewish prayer. It was fun tasting different foods although the horseradish sauce wasn’t very popular!
