The Circles maths group have been learning about fractions in a fun way. They enjoyed working together using smarties to create fractions and they even got to eat them after the maths lesson!

Planting
We have been taking good care of our tomato and strawberry seeds making sure that they are watered daily and have plenty of sunlight. After one week, we noticed that the tomato seeds are beginning to grow but the strawberry seeds need more time as there are no signs of growing yet.
Amazing Art
We drew sketches of a fruit basket for our art lesson. We concentrated on the visual elements. Afterwards we enjoyed eating the fruit for a healthy snack. Yummy!
Marvelous Mapping
We looked closely at a world map to discover which countries the fruit and vegetables which we eat are grown. We worked co-operatively in trios to help each other locate the country and then devise a key to show the origin of the foods. It was very interesting to locate the places that the fruit and vegetables which we worked with during our Farm to Fork visit were grown.
Farm to Fork
Primary 5 visited their local Tesco store in Airdrie to participate in their Farm to Fork initiative. The children really enjoyed the experience and got the opportunity to visit the bakery as well as try out some tasty cheeses at the cheese counter. They toured the store and got to go behind the scenes to see the chillers, freezers and loading bays. It was a very informative and fun filled outing. As you can see by our pictures, they all had a great morning!
Ready Steady Gallop!
Primary 5 have had lots of fun taking part in an art competition to design a clydesdale horse. The winners will receive a sculpture of their design as well as having their art work on show in and around Hamilton. At the end of the summer, all of the horse sculptures will be auctioned to raise money for Kilbride Hospice. Good luck everyone!
Planting
As part of our Scottish Food topic, we have been finding out about fruit and vegetables and we decided to plant our own strawberry and tomato seeds. The children worked co-operatively to plant them carefully and then they wrote instructions to explain the process. We hope to see some signs of growing soon.

Pizza Express Visit
The children visited Pizza Express at Glasgow Fort on Tuesday. The trip was planned as part of their food topic. They got to be a pizzaiolo and create their own Margherita pizza using a variety of fresh ingredients. It was a great learning experience and they all had lots of fun. Some children were very brave during the tasting session and tried new foods such as black olives and anchovies! I think we have some budding pizza chefs in Primary 5!
