Click for the list of children\u2019s rights from the \u2018United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child\u2019 (UNCRC)<\/a><\/p>\n As part of our school\u2019s aims to promote a happy and successful school, we are working towards recognition as a \u201cRights Respecting School\u201d. This is an award which is given to schools on behalf of UNICEF.<\/p>\n UNICEF is the world\u2019s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.<\/p>\n Achieving the \u2018Rights Respecting School\u2019 award (RRSA) will help our pupils to grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens both in school and within the wider community. By learning about their rights our pupils also learn about the importance of respecting the rights of others.<\/p>\n Our pupils are always encouraged to reflect on how their behaviour and actions affect those around them, which allows us to build and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all, both in the classroom and around the school grounds. In preparation for the launch of RRSA, and in consultation with pupils, staff at all levels and the Parent Council, our \u2018Promoting Positive Behaviour\u2019 policy will be revised.<\/p>\n As a \u2018Rights Respecting School\u2019 we require parents\/carers to join our focus group. Meetings will normally take place during the school day to enable our pupil representatives to be present.
