Composite Classes

At St Palladius, due to the varying numbers in each year group, we have some composite classes; a class where the children come from more than one year group, for example, P2/3.

North Ayrshire Council’s maximum number of pupils in a single year class is 25 for P1-P2, 30 for P3 and 33 for P4-7. The maximum number of pupils in a composite class is 25.

Schools are staffed based on the total number of pupils within the school regardless of the numbers of pupils at each year stage.

The Head Teacher is responsible for structuring classes on the basis of advice given by the Council.
