Why Play?
Play secures the best outcomes for our children to develop cognitively, socially, emotionally and physically in a developmentally appropriate way. The UN Convention of the Rights of the Child also states that all children have a right to play (article 31), as well being heard (articles 12), being safe and healthy (article 29).
For play pedagogy to be effective, research has shown that a clear rationale and shared understanding of the value of play is essential. This rationale and shared understanding should emanate from the child’s needs.
