In Literacy, we are focusing on persuasive writing. We’ll be identifying how writers use persuasive techniques and the impact these choices have on the reader, applying this knowledge to create our own persuasive pieces. Alongside this, we are exploring our class novel, Floodland. We will discuss and evaluate the authors’ use of language, including the impact on the reader and how meaning is enhanced through the author’s choice of words and phrases. We learned about inference last term, and we’ll now apply those skills to deepen our understanding of the text.

Our topic this term is the Global Goals. As a class, we’ve chosen to focus on Life on Land, Life Below Water, Climate Action and Gender Equality. We will explore issues such as deforestation, plastic pollution and climate change through a range of texts, and we’ll bring our learning and persuasive writing together to inform and inspire others. There will be lots of opportunities to develop our digital skills as we research, organise information and present our ideas.

In Numeracy and Maths, we will be learning to use the correct order of operations and develop our multiplication and division knowledge. We will then apply these skills to find the area and perimeter of 2D shapes and the volume of 3D shapes, always explaining our reasoning and tackling rich problem-solving tasks.

P.E. days are Wednesday with Miss Armstrong where we will focus on gymnastics, and Friday (throughout November), when children will take part in rugby sessions delivered by Ardrossan Rugby Club. Outdoor learning will take place on Fridays, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the ever-changing weather.

For homework, children should aim to read for 20 minutes per day and complete one spelling and one numeracy activity each week. Targets will be shared on Seesaw each term for you to discuss with your child.

We look forward to sharing our learning with you throughout the weeks ahead via Seesaw. It would be lovely if you could share your child’s wider achievements there too so that we can celebrate them together. This could be a photo or a quick message. Thank you.

Welcome to Primary 6/7 Hello and welcome to our wonderful Primary 6/7 class, taught by Miss Armstrong from Monday to Thursday, and by Mrs Jackson on Thursday afternoon and Friday.
