We have 19 children in our class (9 primary 1 children and 10 primary 2 children).\u00a0 We use play based learning and teacher-led experiences.\u00a0 Our classroom and open area are always VERY busy!<\/p>\n<p>All children enjoy learning phonics through the Jolly Phonics program.\u00a0 We share information including the actions, and song and sound files with parents and carers weekly to help support your children with their learning. We also develop our reading fluency and comprehension skills through the ORT reading scheme, and the children enjoy taking their books home.\u00a0 We regularly access QR codes for the children to practise their literacy skills via online games.\u00a0 Active and play based learning experiences make up a significant part of our literacy learning.<\/p>\n<p>We split numeracy and maths between the teachers to ensure continuity and progression, currently Mrs Docherty is teaching numeracy and Mrs Finlayson is teaching maths, however we do swap this around.\u00a0 As with literacy, children learn through a variety of play, active and ICT activities.<\/p>\n<p>Our P.E. days are Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Docherty, and Friday afternoon with Mrs Finlayson.\u00a0 We also have outdoor learning\u00a0 on a Wednesday afternoon, which we each lead on alternate weeks.<\/p>\n<p>This term our topic is Space &#8211; and we are exploring lots of aspects and facts about the sun, moon, stars and planets.\u00a0 In addition to this we try to base art \/ play experiences around our topic, making cross curricular links where we can.\u00a0 This term the children want to explore outer space and try to find some aliens (lots of imaginative play)!\u00a0 In addition to our main topic this term we explore Scots language &#8211; learning and reciting poems and songs as part of our Scottish Celebration Assembly.\u00a0 This year we have another extra mini-topic to squeeze into this term &#8211; our school is turning 50!\u00a0 We plan to explore events and cultural experiences throughout the decades since the school opened.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions or would like to speak to us regarding your child, please feel free to contact us on Seesaw or through the school office and we will be more than happy to help. \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Docherty &amp; Mrs Finlayson<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello and welcome to our wonderful Primary 1\/2 class, which is taught by Mrs Docherty (Monday &#8211; Wednesday)and Mrs Finlayson (Wednesday &#8211; Friday).
