Our Week in Primary 7

This week, in music, we have been learning to project our voice and harmonise.  We performed the song we have been working on the past few weeks at assembly.  In maths, we have been learning to identify the different types of triangles and their properties. We have applied our knowledge of angles to calculate the missing angles. We also incorporated our previous knowledge of angles percentages and graphs to create pie charts. We have also learned how to create pie charts online. We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday. We visited our local  library and had a big read in the gym hall. Older children in the school paired up with the little ones and we read a book of their choice. In literacy, we learned to identify the genre of a text and we had to change a detective story into a genre of our choice. In science, we were exploring different micro-organisms in our environment. We swabbed different things that we thought would have a lot of germs and put it into agar Petri dishes. We had a vote on what one would have the most on it and are awaiting the results. There are already spores growing 😮 We will keep you updated!

DIY Scratch Art

We have been learning to create our own scratch art. First we used oil pastels to cover the page in colour. Next, we mixed black paint with washing up liquid to allow the paint to stick to the oil pastels. When they were dry, we used skewers to carve out our designs which were inspired by nature.

Beat the Buzzer!

We have been learning to apply their knowledge of circuits to design and build our own steady hand game. We have learned to draw the different circuit symbols and and can explain how a circuit works.

Maths Through Technology 💻

This week we applied our knowledge of angles to programme a dance using Scratch. We had to incorporate a range of different degree turns, in different directions, into our routine such as right-angle, half and full turns. Some of us even managed to sneak in the dab (see video below). We have also been learning to identify 2D shapes and their properties. We used QR codes to self-assess our work.

#saynotoplastic

As part of our plastic pollution topic we have created a petition for supermarkets to reduce the amount of plastic in their fruit and veg aisle. Thanks to all who have signed our petition so far. We have over 750 signatures so far. Please help us to reach 1000 by signing it today 😊 Link is below

Our Assembly

After all our hard work, today we performed our assembly. We spread our message about plastic pollution and the negative impact it has on our environment and we would like to thank all of you who supported us 😊

Angles Explained

Table Tuesdays

Today we were introduced to ‘Table Tuesdays’. We had great fun creating, estimating, measuring and labelling angles on our tables.

Should Children Be Allowed Mobile Phones?

This week we have been learning to write a balanced argument. We have looked at lots of examples of good and bad balanced arguments, sequenced a text and magpied useful vocabulary to use in our own writing. We have been discussing whether children should be allowed mobile phones or not and have written our opening paragraph. We will post some examples of our work later this week 📱
