Homework can have many benefits. It can improve remembering and understanding of schoolwork. Homework can help pupils develop study skills that will be of value even after pupils leave school. It can teach pupils that learning takes place anywhere, not just in the classroom. Homework can benefit pupils in more general ways as well. It can foster positive character traits such as independence and responsibility. Homework can teach children how to manage time.
In Primary 5 homework will be set on a Monday and will usually consist of a Literacy task and a Numeracy task. Spelling words will be set as weekly homework task. Pupils should copy the new words out two more times (LOOK, COVER,SPELL,WRITE ,CHECK) in their Literacy homework jotters and complete an active spelling task. Pupils may be set a research task during the session and homework tasks in other curricular areas which supports our work in class.
Homework should be handed in on a Friday and signed by parent/guardian. Pupils will receive a homework task sheet to take home on a Monday and in addition I will post a copy on our class blog.
