SHORS READING STRATEGIES

The children have been enjoying learning about the 6 SHORS strategies.

There is:

Predicting

We begin by looking at the title of the text, the blurb, the illustrations and the author to help us use our prior knowledge to create ideas about what we think will happen. Also, we can skim and scan through the text to look at the events of the stories.

Questioning

Questioning is very important in helping us to gain a deeper understanding on what is happening in the story.

We use the 5 W’S to help us find new questions.

Who , What, When, Where and Why

Visualising

Viusalising  helps us to picture key events in a story through the descriptions that are given.

Inference

Inferencing helps us look closer at a story and allows us to delve deeper into the writers meaning and express how a character is feeling without directly stating it.

Making Connections

Making connections allow us to find similarities between books, films, songs, social media, world events, emotions and our memories. These all help the reader build attachments to stories.

Summarising

Summarising using Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then, helps us to sum up what is happened in a story by finding the key events of the story.
