This week was maths week so we had lots of fun doing different maths activities. Here are some pictures of what we have been doing.

Popit Maths Sumdog/Hit The Button

Guess My Number Higher or Lower

Hit The Target
We looked for items in our classroom which could be made into arrays.

We studied some portraits painted by Picasso then used numbers to make our very own ‘Mathasso’! Can you spot all the numbers in our portraits?

This week we have been learning how to add and subtract using formal methods. We know we need to remember to add the carrying figure in chimney sums and sometimes we need to exchange a ten when we are subtracting. We have been focussing on predicting and summarising in reading and learning some strategies to help with these. We were asked to complete a ‘Dear World Leaders’ challenge where we send a message to the world leaders at the COP26 conference which is taking place in Glasgow in October. We decided our message was going to be about stopping deforestation as this is what we have been learning about in our Rainforest topic. We made placards with our messages on them and then went out to the trees behind the school to take photographs. We all had great fun climbing the trees even though Mrs Gaw was just a little bit nervous! Here are some pictures of what we got up to!

We have been settling in to Primary 5 and are enjoying having all of the Primary 5 children together in one class. We are really enjoying our Rainforest topic and have been learning about the different layers and the animals that live in these layers. We have been finding out about why the trees are important to us and some of the problems deforestation can cause. We have been working on place value in Numeracy and rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100. We also learned a trick for multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. We completed our first baseline writing assessment on Friday so this will help us set targets for what we want to work on in our writing. We have now finished our class charter display and it is looking great! We decided on ‘bees’ as our theme and thought of lots of different things we can ‘bee’ to ensure everyone in our class enjoys their rights.
