Simile Snap – Suitable for ages 5+     

Make  up some similes or encourage children to make up their own similes. One half of each simile should be written on each card. Each child takes it in turns to turn 2 cards over. If the simile makes sense, it’s a snap!

Synonym Sort – Suitable for ages 5 +

This game can be made simple or challenging depending on the learners. Learners are required to match the words to the correct phone. They are aiming to match synonyms. Use more or less words and more or less phones to challenge learners. You may even ask learners to come up with their own synonyms for the words on the phone.

Antonym Bingo – Suitable for ages 5+

Learners are required to listen to a word and select an appropriate antonym. Can be played as bingo or learners select their own antonym.

Times Tables Toss – Suitable for ages 5+

This is a fun way to practise times tables. Number the slots, make up some cards with a step of the sum missing, the child works out which one is missing and throws the ball in the correct spot.

Number Houses – Suitable for Early Level

Draw 6 houses, each with 4 windows. Have a pile of numbers and 3 other representations of the number. Mix the piles and ask the child to sort the houses. Can they sort them in order or can they do it as quickly as possible?

How many ways can you make? Suitable for Early Level +

This activity can be as simple and as challenging as you like, depending where the child with their learning. With younger children, how many ways can you make 5, building on to larger numbers. Use the cards to make your own number line, compare numbers and discuss more and less

Call My Bluff – Suitable for Ages 5+

This activity can help with dictionary skills, spelling and is good fun! Write two made up definitions and the correct one for spelling words. They can be realistic or funny.

Can the child guess which one is the true definition? Learners can also challenge each other by making up their own definitions.

Stone Matching Game – Suitable for Early Level:

Ask the child to gather some stones of different shapes and sizes. Draw round each of the stones. Challenge the child to see how quickly they can match the stones with the shapes
