In 1989,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>UN General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which sets out the human rights of every person under 18.\u00a0 It recognises that all children have the right to be treated with dignity and fairness, to be protected, to develop to their full potential and to participate.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Convention is a set of 54 articles that <\/span><\/span>apply to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity,\u00a0 gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background (Article 2)..<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
We are a Silver Level Rights Respecting School.\u00a0 This means that we showed a commitment to becoming fully ‘Rights Aware’.\u00a0 We are on a journey to become a Gold Level school, which means we will be ‘Rights Respecting’.<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
Children, young people and adults in our school will have a thorough understanding of child rights, and rights respecting attitudes and language will be embedded across the school. This is a set of 17 goals that were agreed by all the world leaders in 2015.\u00a0 We aim to achieve them across the world by 2030.\u00a0 The UNCRC articles that are linked to each goal will be explored each week.<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
For example, when looking at Global Goals 1\u00a0 and 2- ‘No Poverty’ and ‘No Hunger’- we will make links to UNCRC Articles 24, 26 and 27.<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
ARTICLE 24- health and health services<\/span><\/div>\n
Every child has the right to the best possible health.\u00a0 Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.\u00a0 Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.<\/div>\n

ARTICLE 26- social security<\/span>
\nEvery child has the right to benefit from social security.\u00a0 Governments must provide social security, including financial support and other benefits, to families in need of assistance.<\/div>\n
.<\/span><\/div>\n
ARTICLE 27- adequate standard of living<\/span>
\nEvery child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development.\u00a0 Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.<\/div>\n
