Term 3

Term 3 has been a busy one for a Primary 1. We started our term by introducing our mini topic and learning all about Scotland. We were kept busy making shortbread, learning about landmarks. Our favourite fact we learned was the a unicorn is Scotland’s National Animal. Primary 1b love unicorns! We also learned about Chinese New Year and made Dragon mask. They looked fabulous.

In Literacy, we have learned all our new sounds. These are much more difficult sound but we are all working very hard. Miss McCabe is so impressed by the progress P1b are making with their writing. It is fantastic. We have also had Mrs McGrath in to teach us some new reading strategies including predicting, visualizing, questioning, summarizing , monitoring and inferring. These have really helped us during reading and in other areas of the curriculum. We use them every time we read a story at the end of the day and we do the actions as well!

In Numeracy and Maths we have been learning to add and subtract. We have been recognizing maths symbols and new maths vocabulary. Nude different concrete materials to help us. We have also been learning about 3D shapes including cubes, cubiods, sphere , cones and cylinders. We have been on a shape hunt to find these in the environment. Finally, we have also learned to recognize coins to £2.

We celebrated Pancake Tuesday by tasting some delicious jam or butter pancakes. We weren’t fans of the lemon juice!

We we also love taking learning outdoors when the sun is out.
