We went outside to do some rugby training. We started with some warm ups to get our bodies for exercise.
“Playing rugby outside was really fun. It was more like real life getting to play on the grass. I enjoyed getting the opportunity to practice tackling.”Olivia
“I got some good tips on how to improve. I was told to tackle at the legs of taller people because it’s easier.”Declan
“It was good when Jordan did demos to help us understand better what exactly it was he was looking for.”Reece
Leanne from Active Schools came in to work with us to teach us how to become effective playground buddies. The skills she is teaching us are transferrable because we can use them in other areas, not just buddying. We discussed aspects of an effective buddy and recorded these.
She also taught us various games which we could use to engage the younger children while we are working with them in the playground.
We all really enjoyed having Leanne in and look forward to continuing to work with her over the next few weeks.
In maths, we often do practical activities to reinforce concepts we have been learning. We have been learning about angles and played different games within a group to help us to have a better knowledge and understanding. We used a variety of game boards from Heinemann Active Maths for the activities.
On Monday 24th October we went for a visit to our local library. While we were there completed a quiz about books and the library itself. We also used a contents book to help us discover what non-fiction books the library holds. Finally, we were given the chance to explore the library.
We helped to plant some seeds in the poly tunnel. We planted broad beans, carrots, runner beans and onions. Although it is quite late for planting, we hope that by planting inside the poly tunnel our seeds will grow.
In RME this week, we have been learning about Hanukkah.
Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of light.
An evil king wanted everyone to follow his beliefs. Judah Maccabee did not want to follow his rules so gathered an army to fight. The army won so returned to the temple in Jerusalem. The temple had been destroyed so they began to repair it. As they were repairing it they found an oil can which would light a candle for 1 day. The candle stayed lit for 8 days and 8 nights.
Jewish people light 8 candles on a Menorah to celebrate the festival of Hanukkah.
We wrote the events of the story of Hanukkah on 8 candles and sequenced them on a Menorah.
On Tuesday 27th September, coach Jordan from the Ayrshire Tornadoes came in to do a basketball taster session with us. We all had a great time developing our basketball skills and improving our fitness through fun games and activities!
