On 2nd March we participated in World Book Day. Lots of us dressed up as our favourite character from a book and took part in a ‘Big Read’ in the gym hall. Mrs Breen read ‘Cinderboy’ to the whole school and then we paired up with someone else to share a story with them.
Our class costume winner was Emma who dressed up as Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series!
On Thursday 16th February we visited Irvine Burns Club. The trip gave us an opportunity to learn more about Robert Burns and speak to people who are really passionate about him. We left feeling much more knowledgeable and having seen lots of interesting items related to Robert Burns. These included items such as original poetry manuscripts, the chair he sat on to read books in his local book shop and a timeline of his life in Irvine.

After learning the required skills, we played a friendly game of volleyball in PE. After playing with a variety of different people, we went into teams for a competitive match. While we were playing the games we were learning about giving each other the right amount of space to let us take shots while being ready to take another shot.
During the library visit we worked in pairs to find facts about Scottish Inventors. We had to locate various fact sheets throughout the library and answer questions. We were using skimming and scanning skills and reading for information.
After this, we went into teams to participate in a Scottish quiz. We all enjoyed using the buzzers.

On Friday 27th of January we enjoyed a Burns Supper along with Primary 7.
Some of the boys in Primary 6 said a Toast to the Lassies while some of the girls did a Reply to the Lads.
We got to taste foods such as haggis, neeps, tatties and shortbread.
Various children recited Scots poems including Leo who was  our class winner.
We all sang Auld Lang Syne and enjoyed listening to the various speakers.

This year we learned the Robert Burns poem Willy Wastle. After reciting the poem in class we selected 3 finalists. Leo, Lilia and Alanna went on to recite the poem in front of the whole school. Leo was our overall winner and Lilia and Alanna were the runners up. Well done to everyone who took part!
“I felt really happy because when Mrs Breen was reading out the winner I was very nervous. My Mum and Dad were very proud!”
Over the last few weeks we have been learning the Scots poem ‘Willy Wastle’ by Robert Burns. On Friday of this week we began reciting the poem to our classmates. There was a list of criteria that Mrs Anderson was looking for within our performance and we all recited the poem to the best of our abilities. Although some of us were quite nervous, we all did an excellent job and are excited to find out who will compete in front of the whole school at next weeks whole school competition.
