Both Leo and Katie represented Primary 6 in Mayfield’s Got Talent on Monday 26th June. They were both fantastic and we all thoroughly enjoyed their performances! Unfortunately neither were the overall winners but they both came out top in our eyes!!!
“Both performers did really well!” Chloe B
“I thought they were fabulous!!!” Kristopher
“I really enjoyed it! I could never have got up on the stage and performed!” Myia
On Friday 23rd June we had our final assembly for session 2016-2017. At the assembly some of us were presented with certificates for achievements in class as we as other achievements such as netball, football and cycling proficiency.
We also used the assembly as an opportunity to say goodbye to both Mrs Thomas and Mrs Breen. We wish them both lots of luck in the future!
We complied an assembly to share our John Muir achievements with our parents and carers. At the assembly some of us spoke and we displayed a power point presentation detailing what we have been doing. We did this along with the other classes in the upper school. At the assembly, we were also presented with our John Muir certificates. We are all really proud of our achievements!
On Wednesday we enjoyed a trip to 2 destinations in Glasgow. We took a bus along with Primary 5/6 to get there. We all had a fabulous time and loved exploring both the Riverside Museum and Kelvingrove.

On Thursday we were visited by Iain and Sharon from Fresh Ayrshire who gave us a talk about the dangers of smoking. We were able to compile a large list of why we wouldn’t want to smoke and learned lots of new shocking facts about its dangers. Iain and Sharon showed us various props and we found the talk very interesting.
“I definitely don’t think I want to smoke when I’m older.” Kristopher
“I was really shocked to find out all of the chemicals that are in cigarettes.” Declan
“I thought it was really interesting and none of us will want to smoke when we are older now.” Teigan
P6 have been working in trios to complete various probability challenges. They were then asked to explain their learning.
Alistair – I was playing a game with Katie and Kacie. It was about probability and chance. It was good. There was a really low chance of getting an ‘A or F’ on the chart because you had to get heads all the time or tails all the time.
The chance of landing of the letters A – F were as follows:
A and F were unlikely
B and E were likely
C and D were very likely
Chloe M – When rolling 2 dice you are more likely to get a total of 6 because more numbers make 6. You can only add 1 and 1 to get a total of 2.
Lilia – I was explaining to Afton why I thought the next card was likely to be higher. I said there were more numbers higher than 4 than lower. I explained that 5, 6, 7 and 8 were all higher but only 1, 2 and 3 were lower.
As part of S.T.E.M week we were involved in a ‘Fun Maths Roadshow.’ We worked with a partner to try lots of different maths challenges. Some were easier than others!
“I got to try loads of different maths games and I really enjoyed it!” Kristopher
“I learned some new skills. In my opinion making the 3D shapes was the hardest challenge.” Leo
“I worked with Paige. We found it challenging but fun at the same time!” Chloe B
This week we participated in lots of S.T.E.M activities. Different visitors came in to share their knowledge and expertise with us. Craig Came in to discuss his work in fashion design. He uses computer aided technology to create designs for a variety of different clothing. He shared his knowledge with us and then challenged us to design either an outfit or a print for a T-shirt.
