On Friday morning we enjoyed a sunny Potted Sports session. We took part in lots of mini activities and enjoyed getting some exercise first thing in the morning!
“I enjoyed trying out all of the different activities.” Jason
“The potted sports was very fun. My favourite activity was the bean bag toss!” Leo
“Potted sports was great exercise. My favourite was shooting the basketball!” Kacie
This week and next we will participate in lots of activities as part of Fun Fit Fortnight.
On Thursday we were visited by Iain and Sharon from Fresh Ayrshire who gave us a talk about the dangers of smoking. We were able to compile a large list of why we wouldn’t want to smoke and learned lots of new shocking facts about its dangers. Iain and Sharon showed us various props and we found the talk very interesting.
“I definitely don’t think I want to smoke when I’m older.” Kristopher
“I was really shocked to find out all of the chemicals that are in cigarettes.” Declan
“I thought it was really interesting and none of us will want to smoke when we are older now.” Teigan
P6 have been working in trios to complete various probability challenges. They were then asked to explain their learning.
Alistair – I was playing a game with Katie and Kacie. It was about probability and chance. It was good. There was a really low chance of getting an ‘A or F’ on the chart because you had to get heads all the time or tails all the time.
The chance of landing of the letters A – F were as follows:
A and F were unlikely
B and E were likely
C and D were very likely
Chloe M – When rolling 2 dice you are more likely to get a total of 6 because more numbers make 6. You can only add 1 and 1 to get a total of 2.
Lilia – I was explaining to Afton why I thought the next card was likely to be higher. I said there were more numbers higher than 4 than lower. I explained that 5, 6, 7 and 8 were all higher but only 1, 2 and 3 were lower.
As part of S.T.E.M week we were involved in a ‘Fun Maths Roadshow.’ We worked with a partner to try lots of different maths challenges. Some were easier than others!
“I got to try loads of different maths games and I really enjoyed it!” Kristopher
“I learned some new skills. In my opinion making the 3D shapes was the hardest challenge.” Leo
“I worked with Paige. We found it challenging but fun at the same time!” Chloe B
This week we participated in lots of S.T.E.M activities. Different visitors came in to share their knowledge and expertise with us. Craig Came in to discuss his work in fashion design. He uses computer aided technology to create designs for a variety of different clothing. He shared his knowledge with us and then challenged us to design either an outfit or a print for a T-shirt.
For the Spring Fayre we decided to sell decorated mugs. We bought plain mugs and decorated them with Sharpies. After putting them in the oven, the design was set on to the mug. These sold really well and we were only left with 3 out of 33!
We also made a treasure map and asked people to guess the co-ordinates in which the treasure was hidden. Myia and Carrie designed our map. This was a really popular stall and in the end, Kaiden from Primary 5/6 guessed the winning spot!
Our final stall was ‘Guess how many sweets are in the jar?’ In the end, 3 people guessed the same correct amount of 101! Their names were put in a hat and Tianna in Primary 4/3 won the jar of sweets!
On Thursday we were set a challenge to use nets of 3D shapes to construct a model. We had to be able to tell each other what shapes we had used and what our final product was. We worked with a partner to complete this task. Here are some pictures of us in action…
“I really enjoyed the task and thought it was great getting to make the final structure.” Lilia.
“I liked getting to work with my friend. Another partnership let us borrow some of their shapes because they were finished first.” Kristopher.
“It was a great experience and helped me to remember the names of each 3D shape.” Katie.
“I thought the task was challenging but fun! I found it most difficult to join the different 3D shapes.” George.
Here are some of the finished models…
