It was great to show our families the strategies we use when developing our reading comprehension skills. We discussed the new strategies we have been using from the Taryn Moir reading project. An example of a strategy is visualise which helps us to picture the text as if it was a film. Using these strategies has helped us understand the story of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’ which is our current topic.
We enjoyed a visit to Saltcoats Library. We found out lots of information about Roald Dahl as well as trying out some Halloween activities. Thanks for having us Saltcoats Library, we hope to see you again soon!
We have been revising symmetry. We completed symmetrical monsters and coloured them in accurately, keeping them symmetrical. They are very effective!
We have found out that the language of China is Mandarin. We noticed that Chinese people write using symbols. We tried writing numbers using Chinese symbols. It was interesting and quite tricky!
This term we have been learning about qualities of a good friend. We worked in groups to sort pictures into ‘good friend’ and ‘not a good friend’. We had to justify our decisions. Following this, we discussed scenarios which highlighted people being unkind to others. We shared what we would do in these situations with our classmates which led to a super discussion. It was lovely to hear how thoughtful and kind we would be!
We are trying really hard to learn our times tables. We found it both challenging and relaxing completing a multiplication ‘colour by number’ activity. Look out for more ways in which we will be learning our times tables!
Mr Brown took some of us out into the polytunnel to harvest our crops. We managed to harvest turnip and beetroot! We took our vegetables to Linda in the school kitchen who used them as part of the school lunches that day. She showed us the vegetables after they were steamed and told us what she intended to do with them. Furthermore, after she had pickled the beetroot she let us try some. It was delicious! Some of us had not tried it before and really enjoyed it!
We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about China and the culture of the Chinese people. We had fun exploring some of the Chinese resources we had in our classroom. Emma S, Sophie and Bryony even brought things in from home to show and tell!
We recreated the famous Cherry Blossom Trees. Look how effective they are!
