{"id":120,"date":"2017-12-11T15:09:56","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T15:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/na\/largsprimary\/?page_id=120"},"modified":"2023-02-01T16:08:55","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T16:08:55","slug":"parent-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/na\/largsprimary\/parents-2\/parent-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Parent Council<\/p>\n<p>Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 was established to encourage and support more parents to become involved in their children\u2019s education.<\/p>\n<p>The main aims of the Act are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Help parents become more involved in their child\u2019s education and learning.<\/li>\n<li>Welcome parents as active participants in the life of the school<\/li>\n<li>Provide easier ways for parents to express their views and wishes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To help achieve these aims, all parents will automatically be members of the Parent Forum at their child\u2019s school and are entitled to have a say in selecting the Parent Council (the representative body) to work on behalf of all parents at the school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The objectives of the Parent Council are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To work in partnership with staff to create a welcoming school which is inclusive for all parents.<\/li>\n<li>To promote partnership between the school, its pupils and all its parents.<\/li>\n<li>To develop and engage in activities which support the education and welfare of the pupils.<\/li>\n<li>To identify and represent the views of parents on the education provided by the school and other matters affecting the education and welfare of pupils.<\/li>\n<li>To be involved in the recruitment process for appointing the Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher of the school.<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Largs Parent Council Members:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Joint Chairs:\u00a0 Susan McNicol and Tracey Orr<\/p>\n<p>Secretary:\u00a0 Diane Agnew<\/p>\n<p>Treasurer:\u00a0 Marie Prince<\/p>\n<p>Parentzone Scotland is a unique website for parents and carers in Scotland, from early years to beyond school.\u00a0 The website provides up-to-date information about learning in Scotland, and practical advice and ideas to support children\u2019s learning at home in literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing and science.<\/p>\n<p>Information is also available on Parentzone Scotland regarding additional support needs, how parents can get involved in their child\u2019s school and education.\u00a0 Furthermore, the website has details about schools including performance data for school leavers from S4-S6; and links to the national, and local authority and school level data on the achievement of Curriculum for Excellence levels.<\/p>\n<p>Parentzone Scotland can be accessed at:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\">https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parent Council Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 was established to encourage and support more parents to become involved in their children\u2019s education.
