              World Factbook from the CIA  The information  on  this website is prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency for use by the US government. You can be sure that the information is up to date and reliable. Don’t forget to click on the arrow beside the ‘please select a country’ box to see the list of countries of the world. Also has a useful list of World Leaders

    Infoplease A site developed by a company of educational publishers. For its articles, Infoplease gathers data from the following sites: The World Factbook; Center for International Research, U.S. Bureau of the Census; The Columbia Encyclopedia; The World Book Encyclopedia; Encyclopædia Britannica; U.S. State Dept., and various newspapers.

           Country Reports Excellent resource which gives lots of background information about countries, as well as facts about culture, sports and recreation, and what it’s like to be a child in a particular country. Access to this information is not free, but the school library has a subscription (currently unavailable – please contact Ms Newbury if you would like access to this website) .
