          Metropolitan Museum, New York Comprehensive timeline of Art History, from the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Recommended for older students

         Art UK A project from Art UK, 3000 British museums and the BBC, which has resulted in a huge virtual gallery of art works which you can search by style, subject or type of artworkArt UK

        The Art Story: Modern Art Insight;  The Art Story: Modern Art Insight – timeline Highly recommended website for information on art movements over the last two centuries. The timeline,which puts the various art movements in chronological order, is also very useful

SCRAN A large collection of images on the history of art from SCRAN, a government -sponsored project overseen by Historic Environment Scotland

        

King & McGraw  A commercial site selling prints by all the world’s famous artists. You can search for the work of individual artists, or look at different art movements. You can use the site to look at the paintings before finding out more about the painting using other websites.

   The Victoria and Albert Museum Access to extensive online design collections of fashion, photography, furniture, and many more, from London’s V&A museum

            The Design Museum Examples of great design, as well as  some information on designers, from the Design Museum in London

Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture. Part of Middlesex University.  Collections of designs including wallpapers, textiles, designs, books, catalogues and magazines from the late nineteenth to the 70s
