Parent’s evening

Just a reminder that the above will take place tomorrow from 4pm onwards. We look forward to seeing you. There will be information stalls on the Communication hub as well as changes that we are making to our reporting procedures. We are keen to capture your views as to how else we can help you understand the ways in which our staff assess learning. Following some feedback from some of our parents, we are also very keen to hear how we can continue to capture and promote wider achievements.

Welcome Back

A very warm welcome back from the staff team at Haysholm. We are very much looking forward to the session, with a very full calendar planned as usual. By now you should have received your annual consent forms and thank you very much to those of you who have returned them. If you have not returned them, please can you do so as quickly as possible. As you know outings are very much integral to our curriculum and we need your consent for these.

Thank you.

Bute class in Arran

We arrived safely at Arran outdoor centre. Unpacked and met with staff to discuss plans for the week. After lunch (all pupils ate well) we headed out for a rather wet walk .  The rain did not dampen our spirits , boys all did a 5 mile walk and RB had a lovely walk with girls.  We are now having a 15 min rest in conservatory before we head off to dinner .

Massage and Relaxation

In school as part of health week the pupils have been able to experience different methods of massage and relaxation techniques.  Here are copies of the resources we have been using in school.  Also included is some paperwork detailing the benefits of relaxation and massage for children as well as where it fits within Curriculum for Excellence.

All pupils responded really well to this.  For massage we are using coconut oil, available from all supermarkets but a bargain from B & M at just £1.49 for a large tub!  It is solid in the tub but very quickly melts with the heat from your hands – and it smells divine!

Fit Fifteen

North Ayrshire Council are encouraging schools to sign up to ‘Fit Fifteen’.  Fit fifteen increases physical activity for all of our children and young people as part of the school day.  It is in addition to the planned PE programme for the week.  Types of physical activity would include; walking, running, rebounding, cycling, use of playground equipment and so on.  For our learners there are numerous benefits including; improving bone health, improving physical mobility and functional movement,  promoting good mental health, helping to maintain a healthy weight etc.   All of our classes have taken the Fit Fifteen Pledge sheet away at this morning’s team meeting to detail what they will do to further promote this and develop this with their learners.  Further information to follow shortly.
