We are looking forward to continuing to celebrate our achievement as a school. In term 3 we will be working with the Eco Committee to focus on littering in our local area. We ran a poster competition this term to highlight the issues of land and sea pollution in our local area. To gain this award we have been taking part in the OutRight Campaign which is focusing on air pollution. The steering group, made up of children from P3 to P7, learned about the campaign before asking each class to focus on this issue during World Children\u2019s Day in November.<\/p>\n<p>The focus on air pollution raised awareness on Article 24: The Right to good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a <strong><u>clean environment<\/u><\/strong>. Our pupils took part in a range of activities to educate them on how polluted air can damage their lungs, the development of their brains and stunt their growth.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u20181 in 3 children is growing up in parts of the UK with hazardous levels of toxic air\u2019<\/em> \u2013 <em>unicef.org.uk<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here is a selection of some of the great work that went on around our school! Some classes created posters, while oothers studied Paddington\u2019s life in Peru compared to London or created memes to spread the word on social media.<\/p>\n<p>ALSO\u2026We are awaiting our results from the diffusion tube which the RRS group set up outside the school to test the levels of air pollution in our community\u2026we will present our findings when we receive them!<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Rights Respecting Schools Concert<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Elderbank Choir gave an outstanding performance at the Rights Respecting Schools concert in Greenwood Academy on Wednesday 20<sup>th<\/sup> Sept. Their efforts were greatly appreciated at this fundraising concert on behalf of the Teenage Cancer Trust.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-3197\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/na\/elderbankprimaryandearlyyears\/files\/2016\/09\/Choir-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-3198\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/na\/elderbankprimaryandearlyyears\/files\/2016\/09\/Choir-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"356\" \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Hopscotch Theatre Visit<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The whole school enjoyed a performance from Hopscotch Theatre Company. All the money raised will be spent locally including services to children. In the picture with Mrs Steel are Nikita and Olivia along with Miss Robertson our Headteacher. Thank-you to Mrs White, Mrs Walker and the boys and girls for their all their hard work and talent. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Mrs Wilson, Chair of our PTA and our Headteacher Miss Robertson, look on as Chellie Brown, Chairperson of our Pupil Council signs our Declaration of Commitment. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">The Declaration of Commitment tells everyone how Elderbank Primary is committed to protecting the rights of children at Elderbank Primary and to support the rights of children wherever they are in the World.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Elderbank Choir performed at the Greenwood Academy Rights Respecting Schools Concert held on Wednesday 14th September 2016. The concert was supported by all primary schools in the Greenwood cluster and Elderbank were proud to play their part in supporting the concert which helped raise funds for North Ayrshire Young Carers and UNICEF.<\/p>\n<p>The funds raised have helped provide some respite for North Ayrshire\u2019s Young Carers and will also provide some inspired gifts for children overseas. These gifts include; Tetanus vaccines for 1000 children, a bicycle, a vaccine carrier for a health worker and chalkboards for 100 children.<\/p>\n<p>A big thanks to Mrs White and Mrs Walker for rehearsing our star performers from Elderbank and of course a huge thanks to our choir members for giving up their time and talent to make the concert such a wonderful and worthwhile event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rights Respecting Schools Update: Term 2 We were absolutely delighted to be accredited as a &#8216;Gold Rights Respecting School&#8217;.
