The Explorers Curriculum Outline Term 1

The Explorers have settled into a spacious classroom this year, where they have a great new learning environment.  They have enjoyed getting into their new routines and building relationships with their peers in the class.  For Literacy, the learners have been practising their CVC words and phonics sounds, visualising and predicting and enjoying visiting the library too.  They are beginning to build their confidence with writing through using VCOP to support them.  For Numeracy, they have been engaging with Number Talks and addition and subtraction.  They have been enjoying outdoor learning, construction and science, along with learning how to code, sew and cook.  The Explorers have been kept busy and are looking forward to the coming months.

The Explorers Curriculum Outline Term 2 23.24

During the month of October the Explorers have been learning about Harvest. We have spent a lot of time outdoors looking for signs of autumn, taking pictures on the Ipads and creating autumn art back in class.

The Explorers have enjoyed baking a variety of treats and simple meals that they can recreate at home.

To finish off the month we carved pumpkins and had great fun at our joint Halloween disco.

We are looking forward to learning about the planet Earth and the solar system this term.

In December, the Explorers had great fun at their Christmas Show. They created their own version of the 12 days of Christmas and performed this in front of a wonderful audience.

To finish off the term, the children had a cinema visit with the whole school to see either a choice of Wish or Wonka and had great fun at their Christmas party.

Explorers Term 3 Curriculum Outline 23.24

The Explorers have enjoyed their first month back at school, settling in well to their daily routines.  Some of the learners have really enjoyed beginning a new writing topic, focusing on narrative writing, where they are writing their own story.  Other learners, are learning about building sentences by using Colourful Semantics as a tool to help them.  We celebrated Burn’s Night, Chinese New Year and learned about how this compares to Scottish New Year.  Most of the learners have really been enjoying joining their Mainstream peers in their Leadership groups too.  All of the pupils have been participating in the JASS award also, along with visits to a variety of places in the community.

At the end of February, the Explorers enjoyed a visit to Ayrshire College in Kilmarnock where they took part in a boccia festival. The boys had a great time and were given certificates back in school for participation.

To celebrate World Book Day, the children were given titles of books and then they created front covers on their laptops using the 3D paint app. The children also enjoyed looking through different Beano comics and buying their own books at the book sale.
