In P6A we have started our new topic ‘Kenya vs Scotland. We are partnered with a Kenyan school for Rights Respecting Schools so we thought this would be a great topic to focus on. In STEM we used lollypop sticks, pegs and paper clips to build our own shelters. We have learned that some houses in Scotland are very different to some in rural parts of Kenya.

In numeracy, some of us have been working on fractions. We have learned how to fine equivalent fractions; simplify; order and record as improper fractions or mixed numbers.

We have enjoyed using magnetic letters and other active resources to support us with spelling. This is a fun way to remember our spelling patterns.

We have also been using the cooking stations to chop and prepare food. We tried lots of exotic fruits from around the world and found out where they have come from.

Happy New Year!

We enjoyed our Christmas party and a well-earned rest over the holidays. We have had a fantastic start to the New Year. Primary 6 have already been really busy.

In health and wellbeing, we have been focussing on food and health. We looked at different food packaging and thought about the healthy choices we could make.

In literacy, we have been working together to identify great examples of vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. We worked in groups to up level our own sentences. We have also been working really hard to recite our Burns poem with expression.

In STEM, we were challenged to build a marble run using playdough and trays. We had to create a plan and use trial and error to build our maze. Each maze was timed to find out how long it takes to complete a lap. The winning group managed to make a time of 26.22 seconds.

P6A have had a super 2nd term.

We were very lucky this term to have Mr Dreyer, a science teacher, come in to help us build and sail our own Titanic models. We used a range of materials to waterproof our models and then we filled them with passengers ready to set sail. We had lots of fun and learned a lot about engineering.

We have been writing our own stories as if we were a survivor of the Titanic. We then used our ICT skills to redraft on the laptops. We have learned how to edit and improve our own work using technology.

As part of our Christmas fayre we had to make two crafts. We used the cooking stations to prepare sweet treats. We learned about the importance of good hygiene and also wrote instructions to follow.

We are looking forward to our Christmas break after being so busy these past two terms.

P6A are really enjoying lots of active learning.

In numeracy, most of us have been learning how to estimate and measure in millilitres and litres. We have been recording our measurements and are able to convert between millilitres and litres.

Some of us have been focussing on addition and subtraction of up to 3 digit numbers. We can identify hundreds, tens and units and carry out calculations fully.

We have all taken part in personalisation and choice. We have been learning lots of different skills with peers from primary 5-7. At the end of the day we get to share our learning with our class.

We have enjoyed term 2 so far and can’t wait to learn more!

P6A have been very busy this term. We have been enjoying lots of fun activities.

We have been working really hard to improve our writing. We have been reading lots of passages and selecting our favourite parts. We are now using VCOP in our own writing.

We have built lots of free-standing structures in STEM this term. We particularly enjoyed creating our own Ferris Wheels with limited resources. We have also designed and built our own basketball nets as we have been learning shooting skills in PE>

In numeracy, we have been learning how to tell the time. We can all tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. Most of us can tell the time to the nearest minute and convert between 12 hour and 24 hour. Lastly, some of us are now able to calculate time intervals bridging one hour.

We have also enjoyed some of our peers teaching us numbers, colours, days of the week and letters in British Sign Language.

P6A have been very busy this term. We have been enjoying lots of fun activities.

We have been reading ‘The Nowhere Emporium’ by Ross MacKenzie. We created artwork inspired by the prologue. We have also enjoyed lots of literacy activities based on the novel.

In literacy, we have learned how to use a thesaurus to improve our writing. We have used this skill to up level our sentences.

This term we have had lots of fun during our STEM afternoons. We have carried out design challenges each week with our peers including: free-standing towers, lego mazes, paper columns and table top spinners.

In numeracy we have been working on our mental agility. We like to play maths games with our buzzers.

Finally, in ICT we have been using the internet to research topics and display our findings in a PowerPoint. We know how to add WordArt, page transitions and animations to make our PowerPoint’s interesting for our audience.
