September 2023

We have had a busy first few weeks in Primary 2/1 settling into class and school routines. The children have settled in really well and it has been lovely to see new friendships develop. As part of our health and wellbeing, we have been building a positive classroom community and have developed our class charter. We have been learning about our emotions  through the book ‘The Colour Monster’.  Through exploring the outdoors, we have been learning how to play safely and have had so much fun! During play experiences, some of us worked together to create fantastic superhero houses to use for small world play. It was amazing to see the children working so well  together whilst developing lots of skills. In numeracy, we have been exploring pattern through lots of different activities. The Circles have been exploring the relationship between addition and subtraction. The Squares have been learning to recognise doubles. The Triangles group have been recognising, ordering and sequencing numbers within 20. In literacy, we have been exploring rhyme through lots of fun games and activities. Some of us have been learning new letter sounds and enjoy exploring these through active games and must do tasks.

Primary 2/1 really enjoyed their visit to Dreghorn library. We read lots of interesting books and made some exciting crafts! In numeracy, we have been exploring positional language. Some of us have used our knowledge to create and follow directions. In Science, we have been learning all about the 5 senses. We had great fun exploring the mystery boxes and guessing what was inside using only our sense of touch! We enjoyed playing with the Oobleck, which also led to some interesting discussions about solids and liquids.

Primary 2/1 have had a fantastic time taking part in lots of Christmas fun! To develop our writing skills, we used our class post box to create, design and send Christmas cards. We learned about different media that can be used during art and design and used what we learned to create some amazing Santa Clause artwork! In numeracy, we have been learning to identify 2D shapes and describe their properties. We explored tessellation through play based activities.

January 2024

The first month of the year has been full of lots of learning and fun in Primary 2/1! We have been learning about Scots language through our Poem ‘Twa Leggit Mice’ by JK Annand. Everyone made a great effort to learn their poem and it was lovely to see so many children showing confidence when reciting their poem to the class. A huge well done to our amazing finalists: Cameron, Leen and Harris!

During our Scotland topic, we have been exploring the difference between physical and human features as well as the key differences between rural and urban areas. It has been lovely to see the children apply their knowledge of this in the construction area.

In literacy, we have been continuing to explore sight vocabulary and have enjoyed taking part in lots of experiences to help us to read and write new words.
