P5T are having lots of fun during their weekly STEM activities. They have been continuing to develop their problem solving skills through design challenges. They have explored how to create a freestanding skiing man who could travel down the ski- slope the furthest. They have also used a variety of construction materials to create models of famous Scottish landmarks.
In Health and Wellbeing, we have continued to look at healthy eating. They had great fun creating healthy strawberry cheesecakes, which were delicious! Through this, they developed their chopping and weighing skills.
In numeracy, P5T have been learning to estimate and weigh items using grams and kilograms. They used these skills to investigate the sugar content of a variety of foods and were surprised at some of the results!
In Health and Wellbeing, P5T have been discussing healthy eating and have been developing their knowledge of what is meant by a ‘balanced diet’. They have also been learning to use food labels to make healthy choices.
P5T have been continuing to enjoy their weekly active spelling activities. This term, they have been exploring some new activities to help to learn spelling strategies, such as spelling bingo.
P5T have also enjoyed taking part in winter themed activities to develop their STEM skills. They worked in small groups to solve a design challenge which was to create an igloo, which a stable structure, out of sugar cubes and were challenged further when they were asked to create different shapes and sizes. They have also been using computer software to create winter pictures.
We really enjoyed designing a new piece of technology during our invention project. We developed our ability to stick to a budget and calculate costs when ordering the materials that we needed to create our inventions.
In numeracy, the Circles group have been learning to calculate the area and perimeter of a shape. They applied their skills to create their very own robots! The Squares group have been learning to identify lines of symmetry. The Triangles group have been working hard on their addition and subtraction skills. All groups are working hard on their multiplication and division skills and enjoy taking part in active maths activities to practise these skills.
We have started our Space topic this month. We have been using video clips and internet sources to discover new and interesting facts about the Solar System. We have used our painting skills to create a Solar System to display in our classroom. We created different tones and shades to make our planets look realistic!
P5T have been working hard this term settling into new classroom routines. We enjoy our weekly active spelling activities. In numeracy, some of us have been working on following and recording routines using the correct vocabulary. In French, we have been learning to recognise and use French greetings.
