Christmas Service

Elderbank Primary concluded the term with a Christmas service which was enjoyed by staff and pupils alike.  With performances from various musical groups, it was an excellent way to end the term.  We would like to wish everyone within the Elderbank Community a happy and healthy winter break and look forward to seeing pupils return at 9:00am on Monday 8th January.

At Elderbank Primary School, pupils enjoy using Sumdog. Sumdog is an engaging and adaptive learning service which helps pupils practise their numeracy and literacy. Primary 3V recently participated in the North Ayrshire Sumdog competition from 10th November to 16th November 2017. Primary 3V successfully competed against 78 other authority classes to place 1st. After such a big achievement, each pupil from Primary 3V was presented with their very own certificate of achievement at assembly.

Bookbug Competition

The Bookbug Picture Book Prize is a new project from Scottish Book Trust celebrating the very best Scottish picture books and encouraging reading for pleasure in nurseries, primary schools and libraries across the country. The winning picture book is voted for entirely by children across Scotland with the closing date Thursday 8th December 2017. Here at Elderbank Primary School, Early Years right through to Primary 4 have cast their votes. Our Boys and girls voted as follows:

1st Gorilla Loves Vanilla – 142 votes

2nd Little Owl’s Eff – 104 votes

3rd The Fourth Bonniest Baby in Dundee – 64 votes

Each of our Primary 1 pupils will receive copies of these wonderful books, as part of their Book Bug Family Bag. Pupils have been given the opportunity to enjoy all three books in class with friends and we would now encourage them to share these books at home. For all other pupils, copies can be found in our Library.

Library Committee Competition

During Book Week Scotland the library committee organised a competition for P1-4 pupils and P5-7 pupils. P1-4 pupils had to design a bookmark and the super winner was Daisy (P1).

P5-7 pupils had to create a blurb for new novel, ‘Kick’ by Mitch Johnston. The winning entry came from Cameron (P5/6). Well done to both winners who were announced at assemblies and we hope they enjoy their new books!
