Burns Museum Trip

P6S had a great day at the Robert Burns Museum. We saw many of the places in the poem Tam O’Shanter including the Brigadoon (we all crossed the key stone and discovered that thankfully none of us were witches, including Mrs Stevenson!!!) and the Auld Kirk. It was very interesting to see these places and we showed our great knowledge of Robert Burns and Tam O’Shanter. We really enjoyed dressing up and visiting the cottage. Mrs Stevenson would like to thank Ranger Pete and the parent helpers who came and would also like to thank the children for their very good behaviour. They were excellent representatives for Dalry Primary school.

Write one thing you learned during the trip and one thing you enjoyed.

Mrs Stevenson: I learned why a tail coat is called a tail coat. I enjoyed seeing everyone dressed up!

Fairtrade Fortnight

P6 and P6/5 have been very busy over the past couple of weeks thinking about Fairtrade. We had a Fairtrade Coffee Morning last Tuesday.  Many thanks to all the family members who attended and a huge thank you to everyone who baked the delicious Fairtrade cakes. We have also been running a Fairtrade nail and hand painting bar. Thanks to all the children who volunteered their time to help with this and all the parents who donated money.

Here are some photos of the events.

What did you learn during Fairtrade Fortnight? What did you enjoy?

Science lava lamp fun

Today in science we were learning about mixtures. A mixture is a selection of items that are put together and there is no chemical reaction. The items can be separated back out to their original form.

We made lava lamps with water, cooking oil and effervescent vitamin C tablets. First we filled a test tube three quarters of the way with cooking oil. Then we added water and left a two cm gap at the top. We noticed that the water and the oil separated with the water at the bottom and the cooking oil at the top. This is because the cooking oil is less dense than the water. Next we added in the tablet. We observed that the tablet did not react in the oil but when it reached the water there was a chemical reaction where carbon dioxide was produced. This gas attached to small amounts of water pushing it though the oil.

Time to Party!

We all had a great time at our Christmas fun day. We made cakes and had popcorn and hot chocolate. We also watched Aladdin. In the afternoon we had a party with dancing, musical statues and an ice cream factory. We’re all ready for the holidays now!

This week we are encouraging the children to bring a healthy snack to school. We only had 5 healthy snacks on Tuesday – come on P6S we can do better!

Today we taste tested lots of different fruit including papaya, mango, persimmon and dates. We also learned about the circulatory system and how the heart and lungs work.

Which was your favourite fruit and what was your favourite part of today’s lessons?image image image image image image image
