The Global Ambassadors this year.
At Dalry Primary School, the pupils and staff are collaboratively on an International Education journey. The focus of our teaching and learning is inspired by The Global Goals for Sustainability and Primary Languages Learning. We gained our International School Award in 2015 and this gives us a clear vision of future plans and aspirations for broadening and improving our international awareness learning through all curricular areas. We wanted to reach out to other schools in an ambassadorial capacity by giving them the benefit of our own experience and expertise by disseminating good practice. St Palladius and Beith Primary came to work with our Primary 7s on Global Goals’ games.
Over the past 2 years to embed our International Learning, we have planned a Global Goals’ Week with a focus on learning more about health and nutrition, food production, sustainability, packaging and waste in our local and wider community.
Our Global Ambassadors Pupil Team were given the challenge to plan the week and the big questions to focus on were, ‘What can I do differently?’ and ‘Who can I tell?”. They used this as a starter point to plan lessons for the whole school and invite cluster primary pupils and local representatives to visit the school to speak to our pupils and share our learning.
Each class studied a country learning about Food. Primary 3 chose Mexico and they had the pleasure of a visit from Senorita Arneil who presented the history of Mexico introducing some new Spanish vocabulary. Then the pupils learned how to make Salsa. The pupils had a brilliant time and shared their learning through an I-movie at a whole school assembly.
Our international education journey continues and our pupils gained new skills for life through our Global Goals Week.
