As we are renovating the teachers garden (the Quad), we have decided to grow veg as well as flowers and trees. We ordered a kit from Potato Council and we have been chitting our potatoes on a window ledge.

Spring Clean
We are planning a spring clean around April or May time, and we have ordered the spring clean pack from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Catch – up
Due to prelims, the committee hasn’t formally met up for a while, but during this time we have still made progress. We discussed the environmental review and also arranged a time to clean up the school garden, which would be period 7 on a Wednesday.
Rag Bag
We are now official fundraisers through rag bag and there was a bit of fun setting up our indoor bank. We have decided it should stay in the assembly all, as it is a visible place, but with not to much traffic. Rhanna and Sophie are to pin up the posters and put a notie in the bulletin.
Bins
Our new outdoor bins have arrived and our recycling bins are still to come. We will speak with the janitors to set them around the school and Marie-ann and Claire are to contact Helen Brown from North Ayrshire Youth Bank to thank them for the grant money we received and to ask if she would like to see where it has gone.
AOB
Robyn is to inquire about free compost and possibly cheap plants from B&Q to do up the garden. Councillor Gurney has been contacted in regards to the allotments across from the school.

Funding
A big thank you to North Ayrshire Youth Bank who have recently granted us the sum of £982.46 in order to purchase both new litter bins and recycling bins for our school. The committee filled in a grant application form (which had to be done with the least amount of adult help possible) and Erin (grants advisor) sent it away for approval. The new bins will be in place soon, and the evidence will be uploaded.

Bronze Award
We recieved the news that we had acheived our bronze award, ad we got a photo with our certificate.
Moving Forward
We agreed to undertake a new environmental review and discussed methods to get more of the school involved. We have a very big school, so we may select a focus group of pupils outside the eco-committee to help us with our environmental review. From this we will agree on our action plan. We are unsure whether to involve a focus group in this too.

Litter Pick
We held our litter pick today (27/11/14). It was a bit chilly, but we still managed to fill four black bin bags with litter! Thank you to all the Eco committee, and to all our other helpers, it was very much appreciated.

Welcome
Everyone introduced themselves to the committee in turns, allowing us to get to know the new members. Explanation of what we have already achieved was given by older members and due to small numbers, we have decided to not split the committee into year groups.
Cycle Friendly School
A quick talk was given by The head of the PE department to discuss a possible collaboration to become a cycle friendly secondary school. We feel this could also tie into our action plan under sustaining our world. This is only an idea, and it is not guaranteed that we will take part in the scheme.
Recycling
Morgan and Ryan have agreed to run spectacle recycling in the school. This will be put in the action plan under waste minimisation. Claire is in charge of rag bag collection and Mrs Macpherson is willing to help and give advice. Progess of both of these actions will be put up on the blog.
