You will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>apply knowledge and understanding of key engineering facts and ideas<\/li>\n<li>understand the relationships between engineering, mathematics and science<\/li>\n<li>apply skills in analysis, design, construction and evaluation to a range of engineering problems<\/li>\n<li>communicate engineering concepts clearly and concisely, using appropriate terminology<\/li>\n<li>develop an understanding of the impact of engineering in changing our environment and society<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will I learn?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The learning takes the format of whole class direct teaching opportunities followed by activity based learning on practical tasks.<\/p>\n<p>You will be expected to adopt an investigatory approach to the topics, demonstrating a desire to \u2018find out more\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>You will be actively involved in developing your own skills, knowledge and understanding by investigating a range of real-life and relevant engineering systems, problems and solutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What topics will I learn?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Analogue and digital electronics<\/li>\n<li>Programmable control<\/li>\n<li>Systems approach<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical drive systems<\/li>\n<li>Pneumatic systems<\/li>\n<li>Renewable energy<\/li>\n<li>Structures and materials<\/li>\n<li>Engineering and the environment<\/li>\n<li>Bridge design project<\/li>\n<li>Wind turbine project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As part of the BGE, your S3 personalisation will help build the knowledge and skills required for a successful senior phase. Completing the S3 Engineering Science course covers many of the technologies outcomes and supports progression to <strong>National Engineering Science and Design &amp; Manufacture courses (National 4-Higher)<\/strong> along with developing essential skills used in many other subjects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What skills are developed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course is intended to develop skills that will help you in the workplace or further learning when you leave school.\u00a0 Engineering learners develop skills in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>numeracy &#8211; calculations, estimating, contextualising<\/li>\n<li>practical investigative &#8211; apply engineering practically<\/li>\n<li>ICT &#8211; simulating and analysing information<\/li>\n<li>problem solving skills &#8211; developing solutions<\/li>\n<li>report writing skills &#8211; in an engineering context<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will I be assessed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your progress on the course will be assessed through a combination of continuous and final assessment. \u00a0There are opportunities for N4 unit completion throughout the course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What might this help me with when I leave school?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completing this course will help build the skills and knowledge for many engineering and construction\u00a0 related courses (college and university) and careers (modern apprenticeships and graduate\u00a0 apprenticeships).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the course?
