The award allows pupils to become competent to work in science based departments within a broad range of companies including food companies, the whisky industry and the oil industry.<\/p>\n<p>This course is for pupils who have done <strong>National 5 Chemistry<\/strong> and <strong>Maths <\/strong>and one other Science. It is best suited to those doing <strong>Higher <\/strong>or <strong>Advanced Higher Chemistry<\/strong> with an additional Science.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What skills are developed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practical related<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(planning, observing, recording, concluding and evaluating)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Problem solving <strong>Practical <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Explaining and understanding things<\/li>\n<li>Logical thinking<\/li>\n<li>Numerical manipulation<\/li>\n<li>Communication (numerical, written and graphical)<\/li>\n<li>Motivation and taking the lead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What kind of person does it take?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to apply both practical and theoretical knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Desire to solve problems<\/li>\n<li>Good at planning and thinking ahead<\/li>\n<li>Sets targets and work towards them<\/li>\n<li>Ability to break big problems into smaller tasks<\/li>\n<li>Ability to persevere and continually repeat work to ensure it is correct<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Horizons &#8211; where can this subject take you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A career in practical science is interesting and diverse. It can cover a multitude of different disciplines. It involves continuous learning with modern advances and new discoveries.
