You will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Manufacture predesigned projects.<\/li>\n<li>Gain knowledge and understanding of different types of wood and how we can manufacture it.<\/li>\n<li>Learners also gain an understanding of the sustainability and how we can protect our planet.<\/li>\n<li>Allow development in Design and Manufacture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will I learn?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The learning takes the format of whole class direct teaching opportunities followed by activity based learning on practical tasks.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the year you will produce products in the workshop as well as producing information sheets on different materials and tools.<\/p>\n<p>You will be actively involved in developing your own skills, knowledge and understanding by investigating a range of different products.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What topics will I learn?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flat frame Joints<\/li>\n<li>Carcase Joints<\/li>\n<li>Machining and Turning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These will be covered under the following projects<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chalkboard<\/li>\n<li>Stool<\/li>\n<li>And various other projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As part of the BGE, your S3 personalisation will help build the knowledge and skills required for a successful senior phase. Completing the S3\u00a0 Practical Woodwork course covers many of the technologies outcomes and supports progression to <strong>National Design &amp; Manufacture and Practical Woodwork<\/strong> along with developing\u00a0 essential skills used in many other subjects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What skills are developed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course is intended to develop skills that will help you in the workplace or further learning when you leave school.\u00a0\u00a0 Practical woodwork develops skills in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accurately measuring and marking out work to a tolerance.<\/li>\n<li>develop skills when working with wood.<\/li>\n<li>using a range of tools, equipment and materials safely and correctly<\/li>\n<li>reading and interpreting drawings and diagrams<\/li>\n<li>knowledge and understanding of the properties and uses of a range of materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How will I be assessed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your progress on the course will be assessed through a combination of continuous and final assessment. There are opportunities for N4 unit completion throughout the course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What might this help me with when I leave school?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completing this course will help build the skills and knowledge for many design and construction related courses (college and university) and careers (modern apprenticeships and graduate apprenticeships).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the course?
