{"id":36,"date":"2018-11-22T22:18:20","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T22:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/my\/pilmuirprimaryschool\/?page_id=36"},"modified":"2021-04-16T12:05:16","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T11:05:16","slug":"staff","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/my\/pilmuirprimaryschool\/vision-values-and-aims\/staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CURRICULUM for EXCELLENCE<\/strong><strong>\u00a0(CfE) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Curriculum for Excellence; a curriculum for 3-18 years old, is designed to provide our pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need for learning, life and work in an ever-changing world.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the 3 &#8211; 18 curriculum <a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/about-the-3-18-curriculum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE LEVELS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary curriculum covers three levels:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Early:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><em>The pre-school years and P1 or later for some.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>First:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><em>To the end of P4, but earlier or later for some.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Second:\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><em>To the end of P7, but earlier or later for some.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY AREAS OF EDUCATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Literacy<\/strong> across learning<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy<\/strong> across learning and<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing<\/strong> across learning<\/p>\n<p>Curriculum for Excellence is all about bringing real life into the classroom and taking lessons beyond it. Learning and teaching will still focus on subjects and knowledge in addition to developing skills and understanding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CURRICULUM DESIGN PRINCIPLES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our curriculum is designed around the <strong>7 Design Principles <\/strong>of Curriculum for Excellence:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Challenge and Enjoyment<\/strong> \u2013 Pupils should find their learning challenging, engaging and motivating<\/li>\n<li><strong>Breadth<\/strong> \u2013 Pupils should have opportunities for a broad, suitably weighted range of experiences<\/li>\n<li><strong>Progression<\/strong> \u2013 Pupils should experience continuous progression in their learning from 3 to 18<\/li>\n<li><strong>Depth<\/strong> \u2013 There should be opportunities for pupils to develop their full capacity for different types of thinking and learning<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personalisation and Choice<\/strong> \u2013 The curriculum should respond to individual needs and support particular aptitudes and talents<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coherence<\/strong> \u2013 There should be clear links between the different aspects of pupils\u2019 learning, including opportunities for activities which draw different strands of learning together<\/li>\n<li><strong>Relevance<\/strong> \u2013 Pupils should understand the purposes and the value of what they are learning and its relevance to their lives, present and future<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CURRICULUM AREAS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The curriculum areas are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/expressive-arts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Expressive Arts<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/languages-in-curriculum-for-excellence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Language and Literacy<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/health-and-wellbeing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Health and Wellbeing<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/mathematics-and-numeracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mathematics and Numeracy<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/religious-and-moral-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Religious and Moral Education<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/sciences-in-curriculum-for-excellence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sciences<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/social-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Social Studies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/technologies-in-curriculum-for-excellence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Technologies <strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our Curriculum is designed to ensure that we help our children to develop the attributes and capabilities of the four capacities.\u00a0 Our aim is to provide a variety of opportunities for our learners to become:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful Learners<\/li>\n<li>Responsible Citizens<\/li>\n<li>Confident Individuals<\/li>\n<li>Effective Contributors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We deliver our curriculum through<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ethos and Life of the School as a Community<\/li>\n<li>Inter-Disciplinary Learning<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum Areas and Subjects<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities for Wider Achievement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A summary of the key features of the 3-18 curriculum and the terms used to describe these.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/media\/0g2cthxv\/cfefactfileoverview.pdf\">https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/media\/0g2cthxv\/cfefactfileoverview.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CURRICULUM for EXCELLENCE\u00a0(CfE) Curriculum for Excellence; a curriculum for 3-18 years old, is designed to provide our pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need for learning, life and work in an ever-changing world.
