Yesterday we were finding out the meaning behind Shrove Tuesday and today we got the chance to make some pancakes. They tasted delicious!  We took photos of the process and used them to help us to make posters in groups, to show people how to make pancakes. Having written instructions for a couple of weeks, we were able to come up with the success criteria for the instructions with a little bit of support.

Last week P3/4 were learning about the colour wheel with Mrs Stewart our visiting art specialist. We used what we had learned about mixing colours to create beautiful sunset paintings. We are now going to add dream trees to our backgrounds. We will let you see the finished work when we have completed our masterpieces!

Thank you Derek

We would like to say a very big thank you to Derek Merson for his very kind donation of a set of books by Roald Dahl to our class. The children are welcome to take the books home to read before returning them to the class for others to enjoy. P4 look forward to Derek’s weekly visits and have enjoyed hearing him read  George’s Marvellous Medicine  and now The Twits.

Homework Challenge

Week beginning 9.2.15
This week the children will have their homework challenge to complete. It has to be handed in by 20th February. They have been given a sheet home explaining the task.  We look forward to hearing about their favourite books.

Functional Writing

This week some of the children in P3/4 were writing instructions on how to make toast in their writing lesson. To help them sequence the steps correctly they made toast first.

I enjoyed making toast.

Tyler

I enjoyed eating the toast.

Marley

I liked spreading the butter and jam.

Keiran

I enjoyed making the toast.

Kaidey

I liked sequencing the pictures and writing instructions.

Max

I liked spreading the butter on the toast.

Kyle

We know that we need to :

Start each instruction with a bossy verb.

Put the instructions in the correct order.

Start each instruction with a capital letter and end it with a full stop.

Make the instructions short and clear.

BFG

P3/4 have been studying The BFG  by Roald Dahl this term.  They  mostly enjoyed tasting a range of healthy snacks.  Celery even went down well.  Yesterday we made frobscottle, the giant’s favourite drink.  The class took home the recipe so you can have a chance to try some at home.
