PIN ~ 031270 (<strong>Calls to this number will be charged at 2p per minute\u00a0\u00a0service charge plus your call provider\u2019s access charge)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This term our context for learning is <strong>Coastal Classrooms and Forces &amp; Energy<\/strong> with most curricular areas being taught through these. We are still exploring \u00a0rights for children as part of our work on becoming a Rights Respecting School.<\/p>\n<p><u>Literacy: <\/u>We will focus on developing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Good listening and talking skills \u2013 trying not to interrupt when others are speaking, turn taking , questioning and speaking clearly.<\/li>\n<li>Reading comprehension \u2013 being able to ask and answer questions related to the text and clarify the meanings of words.<\/li>\n<li>Prediction and analysing texts \u2013 being able to give an opinion on what is going to happen next; distinguishing between fact and opinion<\/li>\n<li>Grammar \u2013 continuing to work on punctuating sentences; nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives. We will also learn about apostrophes, contractions and prepositions.<\/li>\n<li>Spelling \u2013 we will continue with Jolly Spelling with one new spelling pattern being introduced each week. Homework is sent home each week and the spelling words will be practised in class as Active Spelling before being tested each Friday. We will continue the Look, Cover, Write and Check method.<\/li>\n<li>Handwriting \u2013 we will continue learning\u00a0 how to join pairs of \u00a0letters. Correct formation will be insisted upon to ensure our writing is neat and can be read easily.<\/li>\n<li>Writing \u2013 this continues to be linked to our theme. We will continue to develop independence through use of story planners and our \u201cHave a Go\u201d books for words we need in our writing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Numeracy and Maths: <\/u>This term we will focus on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognition of, writing and ordering numbers to 1000 and beyond \u2013 ensuring children understand the value of each numeral; adding and subtracting tens and units; adding and subtracting hundreds, tens and units; \u00a0times tables (2x\u00a0 4x\u00a0 5x\u00a0 10x \u00a03x) using arrays as a starting point and linking division and multiplication facts; recap rounding numbers to the nearest ten<\/li>\n<li>Mental maths strategies \u2013 continuing to increase our mental agility by adding and subtracting using quick recall of our number bonds, spotting and continuing number patterns, \u00a0number before, after and between, number families<\/li>\n<li>Fractions \u2013 halves, quarters and tenths \u2013 placing numbers on a number line, recognising fractions<\/li>\n<li>Time- recap on \u00bc past \u00a0and \u00bc to using analogue and digital clocks, minutes past and to.<\/li>\n<li>Length ; recap on working with metre sticks, measuring tapes and rulers \u2013 metres and centimetres<\/li>\n<li>Shape \u2013 recap on 3D shapes, introduce calculating area<\/li>\n<li>Capacity \u2013 working with litres and half litres, introduce ml<\/li>\n<li>Weight- comparing items and measuring with kg, \u00bd kg and g<\/li>\n<li>Chance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Health &amp; Wellbeing<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing our understanding of what our \u201crights\u201d are and how these can be protected for everyone. .<\/li>\n<li>Continuing to develop collaborative skills through group and paired challenges, using circle time to share our ideas and feelings.<\/li>\n<li>GIRFEC \u2013 discussing what being safe and healthy means, who helps us and how we can help ourselves. This will include work on assessing risk. Health week (6-10June)<\/li>\n<li>PE \u2013 early golf skills and athletics. Preparing for Sports Day. 15 minutes Daily Dash every day.<\/li>\n<li>Risk assessing \u2013 our trips to the beach for theme related outdoor learning and our Heritage Walk around Lossiemouth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Other class information<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PE is on a <strong>Wednesday<\/strong> \u2013 kit must be worn. Please do not wear tights or ties on PE day. Please ensure earrings are covered using tape or removed and left at home.<\/li>\n<li>Coastal Classrooms \u2013 Thurs afternoons from 12.30 \u2013 3pm ( Apr 21, 28; May 5, 12, 26; June 2)<\/li>\n<li>Heritage walk around Lossiemouth \u2013 June 10 from 9-12.30<\/li>\n<li>Reading days have changed \u2013 please see reading record for a note of these. <u>Books should be brought every day please.<\/u><\/li>\n<li>Homework is given out every Monday and should be returned each Friday. <u>Please remember to sign your child\u2019s homework.<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Whole school information<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The school office is open 8.30am \u2013 3.30pm<\/li>\n<li>Please inform us in advance if your child will be absent because of an appointment.<\/li>\n<li>Please put your child\u2019s name on all of their school clothing<\/li>\n<li>In Service Days \u2013 no school for children on 19 and 20 May<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Should you wish to contact us, please arrange an appointment through Mrs Russell.
