Pupils with a range of additional support needs access the Base on a needs led basis. Outdoors there is a secure\u00a0play area often used to develop social interaction skills. Inside, there is soft playroom, cooking area, quiet room, main work area and sensory zone.<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum is delivered through a variety of multi-sensory activities and real life learning contexts. A multi agency approach is used to support pupils accessing the Base with all key people involved in target setting.<\/p>\n<p>Activities may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LEGO Therapy &#8211; designed to develop communication, interaction and collaborative skills (especially amongst our pupils with autism).<\/li>\n<li>Tasting Sessions &#8211; designed to develop a range of life skills such as setting the table, washing dishes, cooking skills as well as exposing pupils to new foods.<\/li>\n<li>Circle Time &#8211; small group activity to develop communication, listening\/talking,\u00a0turn taking and ICT skills.<\/li>\n<li>Movement Groups &#8211; designed to develop gross motor and co-ordination skills as well as listening and collaborative skills. Movement groups include children from P1 &#8211; P7 with a range of additional support needs.<\/li>\n<li>Social Skills &#8211; intended to develop empathy, cooperation and social understanding in a variety of contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Community Visits &#8211; often pupils visit the local supermarket and cafes. These\u00a0visits encourage the \u00a0development of \u00a0life skills such as money exchange, road safety, shopping skills, communication and interaction skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The secure play area can be utilised as an outdoor learning area with the playhouse providing opportunities for imaginative play and the development of life skills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hythehill Primary School benefits from enhanced provision known as the Base.
