P5-7 NETBALL FESTIVAL (2\/12\/25)<\/p>\n

Some of our netball team visited Gordonstoun to take part in the Netball Festival.\u00a0 The team demonstrated great teamwork, communication and determination.\u00a0 They represented Hopeman Primary very well with good sportsmanship throughout.\u00a0 They won 4\/7 games and scored 28 goals across the matches.\u00a0 For some, this was their first time taking part in the compeition.\u00a0 Well done to all!<\/p>\n

MATHS WEEK SCOTLAND (01\/10\/25)<\/p>\n

Last week the whole school enjoyed celebrating Maths Week Scotland.\u00a0 The children worked in inter-stage house groups to take part in a number of maths related activities.<\/p>\n

PRIMARY 1 (01\/10\/25)<\/p>\n

P1 have had a busy term with lots of learning through play, building our confidence and learning to work as a team! We have also been learning all about our initial sounds, we can say them, write them and do the action.<\/p>\n

PRIMARY 4 (30\/09\/25)<\/p>\n

Primary 4 have enjoyed taking part in Maths Week Scotland and took on a leadership role to help the younger pupils when we joined classes for our House rotation activities. We demonstrated focusing skills which helped us to achieve 76% accuracy when completing the Sumdog Maths contest – 2nd place in our school!<\/span><\/p>\n

PRIMARY 7 (30\/09\/25)<\/p>\n

This term Primary 7 have been busy learning conversation skills in French, beginning to think ahead of skills we will need for High School. We have learned numbers, days of the week and greetings, which we have been able to integrate into our daily routine for everyday practice. In maths we have been working hard learning about place value and a range of different mental strategies that we can use to support ourselves in other areas of maths. A highlight of term 1 has been working with our Primary 1 buddies at beach schools. We have been able to develop our leadership, communication and creativity skills while outdoor learning.<\/p>\n

P5\/6\/7 SCHOOL TRIP Covesea Lighthouse, World War II Beach Activities, and the Navy & RAF Museum (18.3.25)<\/p>\n

Our school trip by P5 , 6 and 7 to Covesea Lighthouse, the World War II beach activities, and the Navy and RAF Museum was an unforgettable experience, made even better by the stunning weather. The bright sunshine and clear skies provided the perfect backdrop for our exciting visit.<\/p>\n

At Covesea Lighthouse, we admired the breath taking coastal views and learned about its historical significance in guiding ships to safety and its local history. The visit to the nearby beach took us back in time as we participated in World War II-style activities. We practiced a marching drill, just like soldiers from the past, and imagined the challenges faced during wartime, by creating beach defences.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of our trip was the Navy and RAF Museum, where we explored fascinating artefacts from military history. From old uniforms and medals to aircraft models and naval equipment, every display told a unique story.<\/p>\n

Overall, the trip was both educational and enjoyable, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for local history and those who served in the armed forces.<\/p>\n

PRIMARY 2\/3P (20\/03\/25)<\/p>\n

This term, our literacy topic has been focused on explanation texts. The children created their own flying vehicles using junk modelling materials. Afterward, they wrote explanations for the reader, describing what a flying vehicle is and how to operate the one they had made. The vehicles included hot air balloons, helicopters, and fast jets.<\/p>\n

PRIMARY 1 (14\/03\/25)<\/p>\n

Primary 1 have been learning about time.\u00a0 They have begun by discussing what different clocks look like and learning about o’clock.<\/p>\n

SCOTTISH OPERA – THE TALE O’ TAM O’ SHANTER (12.3.25)<\/p>\n

Primary 5, 6 and 7 had a busy day with the team from Scottish Opera.\u00a0 In one day they put on a fantastic show which was viewed by the whole school and parents.\u00a0 This annual event is a highlight for pupil and parents alike.<\/p>\n

SGF HEALTHY LIVING PROGRAMME WELBY BREAKFAST EVENT (11.3.25)<\/p>\n

Thank you to Joel at Keystore for providing all the food for the ‘Big Breakfast Event’.\u00a0 This was an opportunity to promote what a healthy breakfast could look like.\u00a0 All the children from Nursery – P7 were able to sample a healthy breakfast and took away a goody bag on the day.<\/p>\n

P7 TRANSITION TASK (7\/3\/25)<\/p>\n

Primary 7 have been using their collaboration skills to investigate a crime scene. As part of their transition activities to Lossiemouth High School a crime scene was set up in a classroom and the evidence was carefully collected. Our primary 7s have had use their investigative skills to work out who the prime suspect is. The children needed to take fingerprints of four suspects and match them to the ones found at the scene. They also had to take footprints and match a handwritten note to the handwriting. They also learned the scientific technique of chromatography to identify the suspect\u2019s pen. They discovered who the prime suspect is and promptly arrested her, taking her for a police interview. During the interviews the suspect crumbled and was taken into custody\u2026to await trial. The newspapers will be telling all soon…<\/p>\n

We continue to try and develop our playground and P1 garden.\u00a0 The children in P1 have been enjoying playing with loose parts to make a den.\u00a0 Children in all classes have been enjoying our new basketball hoops.<\/p>\n

P6 – WW2<\/p>\n

Primary 6 are learning about WW2. Through a storyline approach, we have made families which we will follow their journey as they prepare for war, get evacuated, go to war and woman gain employment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

PRIMARY 5 – WWII\u00a0 (21\/02\/25)<\/p>\n

As part of their World War 2 topic, Primary 5 have been busy working in groups to make storyline families and buildings from the 1930s and 1940s.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to use these to help us in the exploring our topic big question: \u201cWhat was life like for families in World War 2?”<\/p>\n

P2\/3W – FLYING MACHINES (20\/02\/25)<\/p>\n

We have been planning and designing our own flying machines to write about as part of our explanation texts. We had to decide what fuels our machine, powers it, steers it and how it lands. It could be as creative as we liked! This week we will be explaining how to operate our machines during our writing.<\/p>\n

Well done to our team who took part in the Elgin Rotary Quiz at Hythehill Primary.\u00a0 On this occasion we didn’t place however the team demonstrated our school values or Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Excellence!<\/p>\n

PRIMARY 4 – META SKILLS<\/p>\n

Last week P4 were exploring our Meta Skills by taking part in a paper aeroplane challenge in random groups. We were awarded points for completing the task in the time given, for our plane travelling the furthest distance, for creative designs and for working cooperatively.<\/span><\/p>\n

After this activity pupils used the meta skills posters to help them reflect and discuss how they used each skill within the task. This helped us to determine which skill focus would be our target for the upcoming week

NETBALL<\/p>\n

Well done to Hopeman Primary netball team who took part in their first netball festival against other schools within Moray. They showed excellent teamwork and it was lovely to see confidence grow. They managed to secure 1 win as well as 10 goals across the games played. Everyone should be proud of all their hard work. <\/span><\/p>\n

Primary 5,6 & 7 had a visit from the Community Engagement Officer to share information about hate crime.<\/p>\n

In P1, we’re having lots of fun while learning! We’re going over all of our letter sounds to make sure they stick, playing games to get comfortable with numbers up to 20, and working in teams to help each other out.<\/p>\n
