All S2 Pupils have recently had an assembly about their new topic, Human Rights. The assembly started off with a small introduction on ‘who has power?’. The pupils were asked who has power in Moray?, Scotland?,The UK? and The World?. The pupils replied with saying that leaders and the people that vote for them has power But sometimes the power gets taken off of us and we need to get it back. A interactive ‘tug of war’ took place with the ‘leaders’ vs the ‘people’.

The outcome was that we all need to group together to get our voices heard and to get changes. The co-ordinators of the assembly then explained the ‘Send My Friend to School’ campaign in which the students will be taking part in.

Students have recently completed their ‘send my friend’ characters which will be sent off to the Prime Minister. The characters contain a message about what we as a country can do to help all children around the world have an education.

Students are beginning to learn about the Rights of the Child. They are currently learning about street children and the many problems and dangers they face. This can be linked back to the UNCRC as many of these children do not have access to their rights.
