Family Learning & Partnership

At Bishopmill we encourage our parents and carers to actively and meaningfully engage in their children’s learning and life at school.  e.g. attending children’s assemblies, sharing the learning events, curriculum evenings/family learning events.

It is well proven that children do better when parents and educators work together.

“The more engaged parents are in the education of their children, the more likely their children are to succeed in the education system” (Goodall and Vorhaus 2011)

SCOTTISH NATIONAL STANDARDISED ASSESSMENT (SNSA)

From 2018 the Scottish Government is introducing a new system of standardised assessments, called Scottish National Standardised Assessments.

Pupils in P1, P4, P7 & S3 will be involved, writing and numeracy assessments are completed online and can provide teachers with immediate feedback. They do not have a pass/fail mark and help teachers plan the next steps in learning. It is an adaptive system, which means all
pupils are challenged and receive an assessment suited to their ability. They take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

Pupils in P1 will take 2 assessments (literacy and numeracy) and pupils in P4, P7 & S3 will take 3 assessments (reading, writing and numeracy).  Children who require additional support will be able to receive the support they normally receive in the classroom when completing the assessments.  Please note these assessments are
primarily designed to be used by teachers and help to assist them in identifying strengths and areas for development in learning. Information will play a role in informing the normal engagements processes with parents’ evenings and reports about children’s learning, which will take place in school.
