Good morning everyone. We hope that you are all well and interested to see what we have lined up for you this week.

The weeks suggested ideas for different subject areas are below. Remember that these suggestions can be expanded or reduced to meet your circumstances.

On Monday, 25th May at 3pm, we invite you to join another Team meeting/webinar. We can maybe mix up what we do in some future meetings but thought that it would be nice to just share some news and stories again this week. The meetings will not be at the same time every week as we want to be flexible to allow for things like music lessons, clubs, other meetings, and just the busy lives that people still have. The invite and joining instructions are on our Team page. We look forward to hearing from you, hopefully, you will manage to join.

Let’s start by waking up those brilliant brains! Can you complete the Pirate Crossword? You do not need to answer any clues, you just have to try and fit in all the words. Maths

You have been doing lots of work on shape, so this week we are mixing it up and we would like you to revisit division. Remember the mathematical term…division is the inverse operation of multiplication. So, your times table knowledge will come in handy this week.

First, have a look at this video to remind you what division is.

Then have a go at the Ultimate Division Challenge. Once you have completed it there is an answer sheet so that you can self-assess your work.  Ultimate-Division-Challenge

If you want to challenge your brain more then have a go at revisiting long multiplication and maybe stretching to sums with remainders. Have a look at the following video to remind you of the process.

Writing

This week’s writing is going to be very exciting and hopefully, you will share lots of your whacky creations with us. 😊

This week use the story cubes below to create and write a story. We have rolled the dice and taken photos for you to choose from. There are 3 options, but you only need to choose one. We just wanted you to have a choice. You are going to take on the role of ‘storyteller’. It is a good idea to begin with “Once Upon a Time” then tell a story that links together all 9 cubes. Start with the first image to grab your attention. Your story should use 3 cubes for the beginning, three for the middle and three for the end. There are no wrong answers with this story: the only thing that can hold you back is your own imagination. Go as crazy as you like…but make sure your writing still makes sense! It is fine to have a dinosaur who is addicted to spaghetti bolognese as your character but if he is all- of- a- sudden jumping out of a plane without a good reason then we may have a few issues. If you explain, however, that it had always been his life-long dream and passion to skydive and how he came to be on the plane in the first place then we are all OK.

Have fun, be descriptive, use those similes and metaphors that we have learned so much about in class, and don’t forget about the punctuation!

If you are a reluctant writer and you are normally not a huge fan of pencil and paper, then there is always the “Dictate” option at the top of your Word document. If you allow this access to your microphone, then you can speak into your microphone and the story will be written for you! This is not cheating it is using the tools that you have to your best advantage. (Please remember to read your work back, to check that it does make sense!)  Dice

 

Reading

Health and Well-being

For your physical health and well-being, we encourage you to have a go at Miss McNab’s challenges, a new one is posted every Wednesday on Twitter!

This week’s focus is GROWTH MINDSET. We did quite a lot of work on this in class and looked at the difference between a ‘fixed’ and ‘growth’ mindset. Watch the clip below to remind you of what a growth mindset is, and then create a poster to explain the difference between the two mindsets. We are experiencing a lot of change just now, so it is important that we develop our growth mindsets to cope with these challenges.

ICT

This week we would like you to continue and finish your Buddy applications. It was great to hear so many of you being excited by this opportunity last week! Please remember that it is important that we get your application sheet. We have seen some outstanding videos and PowerPoints so far, so we cannot wait to see what else arrives in our emails or into your Team’s folders this week! The initial information is still available on last week’s learning and the files/documents and Mrs Grimson’s video are also available on Teams. Please aim to email us or upload onto Teams your application along with your video or PowerPoint by the end of the week.

 

Music

Mrs Allan’s challenge has already put a smile on our faces! This week’s challenge is the theme tune to the long-running television show ‘Friends’. The song is called I’ll Be There for You by the band The Rembrandts. She has included the lyrics so you can sing along. It would be great to hear you have a go at this on your recorders or other instruments. It is such a cheery and upbeat song!  Recorder Challenge 5

 

RRS – Article of the Week

Article 24 – Health Care – ensures that every child has the right to the best possible health.  Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.  Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

How many ideas can you think of to help you be healthy?

This week’s suggested task is to invent a recipe for a healthy snack. As an extra, you could make it for your family!
