Castles, Numbers, French and More!
Have a look at all the things we have been up to in P2/3! 🙂
We have been working with numbers to 100. We have been using lots of different resources to help us with our number work.
We have welcomed a visitor to our class – Sparky the Dragon! He hatched out of the golden egg that we found in the treasure chest at Balvenie Castle. As we learn about castles we are going to help Sparky to learn about castles too. Then when he is big enough he will be able to go and live in a castle of his own.
We made dragon puppets to keep Sparky company.
We found out that early castles were made from wood but the people who lived in them soon found out wood was not very good. I’m sure your child will be able to explain why. The next castles were built from stone as this material was much stronger and safer. We designed our own castles and used our printing skills to make the stone pattern.
This week we have been using information books to help us find out why castles were built and how they were protected from attack. We learned about Lords and how they worked for the king. We discovered that Lords were given a part of the kings land to protect and they built castles for themselves and their soldiers and families to live in. We also learned that each castle had a banner that represented the people who lived in the castle. We decided to make our own banners that represented us. We worked in groups and created beautiful banners which will be hung up in our classroom.
We made a sunflower, a bookmark and a drawing for the Dufftown Flower Show. We all worked very hard and were pleased that some of our class won some prizes. Well done everyone!
Lari Don came to visit Mortlach Primary School and we all listened to her read one of her stories. She is a fantastic children’s author and a former Mortlach pupil.
Yesterday we had another visitor to our class – Monsieur Bernaud. He has moved to Dufftown recently and has offered to come and help us learn French. What better way to learn French than from a native speaker? We had a brilliant afternoon of learning and are looking forward to lots fun with Monsieur Bernaud.
