World War One

P6 are learning about World War 1. We have turned half the classroom into a trench. Everyone has something to make or write. Me and Elle are making a vet corner with a stable. Other people are also making a tank, a plane, a soldier and lots of other interesting things. We are having a day in class when parents and friends can come and see what we have been doing. Hope you can come!!

Cross Country

On Tuesday 7th of October a few P6’s and a few P7’s went to cross country at Vogrie. There was lots of schools competing. There was 3 P6 girls, 3 P6 boys, 3 P7 boys and 2 P7 girls but one P6 girl running for P7. Miss Stark and Miss Lovell went with them. Everyone was shouting very loud for their school but St Mary’s were shouting the loudest! St Mary’s didn’t win but they tried their hardest!

Road Safety

Primary 6 made some road safety posters to hand out around the school to make sure everyone is aware of how to keep them self safe on the road. No one set their poster out the same way so if you walk into a class room to find a colourful thing staring at you it will probably be the P6 posters.

After the October holidays it was walk to school week and the JRSO’s all hope that everyone took part but remember you don’t just have to walk from your house you can park and stride ( walk half way )
So we hope everyone has had fun taking part or parking and striding !

Cycle Training

P4 – P7 had cycle training on Wednesday 30th of September from 9:00 – 10:30. Everyone in the school had a blast. All of them learned new things about safety, slow cycling and many more. Everyone found it very informative and fun. Everyone rode freely around the playground but the fun had to end.

We started to learn French. We have learned how to say hello, goodbye and thank you. P5 learned how to count to ten.

Tae Kwon Do

Primary 4 enjoyed Tae Kwon Do this week. We found it amazing that the teacher could jump so high. My favourite part was the flying kicks.

The Tae Kwon Do instructors were amazed with India in P4 who did the splits perfectly and got her foot over her head. Isla also showed her talents. Ossian kicked to victory by breaking the wooden board.

P4 have also enjoyed learning how to say different words in French.

Paired Writing in P3

In Primary 3 we have been writing dinosaur poems in pairs. Writing in pairs is when you have a partner to write with. This helped us to create good poems and news articles.

Now that we are back from the holidays we are going to learn more about the Egyptians.

Risk Factory

Primary 7 enjoyed a class trip to the Risk Factory which was all about what risks you could come to in your life. The majority of Primary 7 commented that there was a favourite risk, which was learning about fire safety. Every risk was a different scenario. We hope the next Primary 7 class will love it as much as the ones now did. Overall it had to end but it would be great to go back.

The Ugly Animal Show

This morning Primary 4-7 enjoyed watching ‘The Ugly Animals Show’ as part of Midlothian Science Festival. We learned all about ugly animals in the world and lots of interesting information. There was lots of opportunities to get involved and practical activities which the children found entertaining. Here are some photographs from today.

Thank you to Simon Watt and The Ugly Animal Society for an enjoyable morning.
