This week in class, P4 have been learning all about Famous Scottish Inventors. P4 were really interested to find out about the different inventions. On Wednesday Miss Dolan and Mrs Differ introduced 6 different inventors and then P4 had to see if they could match the inventor to the invention.
Then on Thursday it was over to P4 who worked in their home teams to research a famous Scottish Inventor and then they created a poster displaying all the facts they had found out. On Friday each home team presented their poster to the class.
Next week we will be learning all about Famous Scots from the past…
We hope you have all received your letters inviting you to our PAT PAL session on Friday 5TH February. Our focus will be on our topic where the pupils will share what they have learned so far and the different ways we have gone about that.
Hope to see you all there.
Miss Dolan and Mrs Differ
Just a wee reminder about homework… Spelling homework is given out on a Monday and is handed in on a Thursday. Maths homework will be given out every other week.
Homework grids are handed out on a 4 weekly basis and the pupils are asked to choose items to complete. We have attached a copy of our latest homework grid below.
18.1.16 homework grid
On this homework grid we ask that all pupils carry out some research at home on a Famous Scot – they are asked to find out 5 facts and display these in any way they choose. We ask that this is handed in on the 10th February as we will use this as part of a group discussion/debate in class where will be asking the pupils who they think the most Famous Scot is.
Reading homework is set twice a week… On a Monday for the Wednesday and a Wednesday for the following Monday.
Thank you for your continued support.
Miss Dolan and Mrs Differ
Just a quick blog post on our week last week. As always it was a busy week in P4 with lots of good learning.
We kick started our new topic by looking at Robert Burns. We listened to a presentation about Robert Burns and took notes. Then wrote down what we heard and what we knew already… Who he was, What he did, When he was born and Why he is famous.
We were so lucky to have Mr Goodall – Murron and Maggie’s Dad, visit our school and share his knowledge of Burns songs and poems. P4 loved having him in class.
On Friday at our Burns Assembly we read out the story of There was a wee Lassie who Swallowed a Midgie… The whole school loved it!! We enjoyed sharing it!
This week we will be looking at famous Scottish Inventors… Stay tuned!
Another busy week in Primary 4…here’s what we have been up to…
At the start of the week both classes got into new home teams and created new home team names and a shield representing their team! They will work in this team for the rest of Term 3, where they will take part in lots of tasks.
For writing this week we looked at how to write a letter and the correct features a letter should have. We looked at a WAGOLL – What a good one looks like, to help us. The Pupils wrote letters to Heather Dyer the author of The Fish in Room 11. The pupils shared with her their favourite part of the book and also asked the author a question. We will be writing a different type of letter next week where we will be extending our skills.
On Wednesday afternoon P4 were making and setting SMART targets for the coming term. We will be referring back to these as the term goes on to see if we are on track.
We introduced our new topic this week… Famous Scots. We will be looking at Famous Scots from the past and present and what their influence has been. The pupils told us what they know, what they want to know and how they want to learn. We will take this and use this to help us plan our lessons. We will start of our topic looking at Robert Burns and his work, we are lucky to be having a Burns Expert coming in to work with the both classes next week – more on that later!!
P4a will be having sessions with the P.E teacher and the Music teacher this term. P4b will be having sessions with the Art teacher and French teacher this term.
More next week… come back then!
Miss Dolan and Mrs Differ
Welcome back… we hope you all had a lovely Christmas and we wish you Health and Happiness for the New Year.
It was lovely to see all the pupils back on Wednesday and hearing their stories from their holidays.
Pupils shared their highlights from the holidays in the form of comic strip with lots of lovely pictures to accompany it.
Today, both classes took the time to talk about New Years Resolutions and why we make them… Each pupil has made 4 New Years Resolutions – 2 for home and 2 for school. We will display these in class… they look fab!!
Homework starts back next week with 4 new spelling activities. Reading books will be handed out next week too.
We aim to hand out a new homework Grid the following week.
Our topic from now until the February Break will be – Famous Scots and how they have influenced society.
P4b will continue with their swimming lessons on a Tuesday afternoon – starting back next week (12.1.16)
Thank you for reading – stay tuned for more updates.
