Whinhill is a dialogic school. We use Talking and Listening as the foundation of all learning.\u00a0 Talk is fundamental to the development of literacy skills when creating an ethos that promotes a community of enquiry. It is proven to raise attainment in writing, reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.<\/p>\n
During discussion, we use certain rules which are really important to our learning. These are usually co-created with the children at the start of the year but they are based around these rules:<\/p>\n

\n2. Good body language.<\/span>
\n3. Hand signals to take turns.<\/span>
\n4. Don\u2019t take attention away from the person speaking.<\/span>
\n5. Respect people\u2019s feelings; never laugh at anyone\u2019s ideas or opinions.<\/span>
\n6. It\u2019s ok to disagree but do it politely.<\/span>
\n7. Give thinking time but be ready to \u2018chip in\u2019 with super hero scaffolding if someone wants us to.<\/span>
\n8. Don\u2019t repeat, build on ideas.<\/span>
\n9. Ask interesting questions and give strong answers to make our brains grow.<\/span>
